Tarskavaig, Sleat, Isle of Skye

A stunning and substantial detached house designed by award-winning Scottish architects, Seacroft has an elevated position on the west coast of the Sleat peninsula in the south of Skye, with breathtaking views to the islands of Rum and Eigg.  It is within a 5 minute walk of the beach and Tarskavaig Point with  dramatic views of the rugged Cuillin mountains.

The house stands in a quarter acre of mainly grassed garden, with a decking area to the front, accessed by patio doors from the dining area, so the wonderful views may be enjoyed when sitting either inside or out.

The internal design is indeed stunning.  There is an impressive kitchen-dining area with solid oak wood flooring and a high ceiling with Velux windows to give the maximum natural light.  The kitchen is superbly fitted and equipped, and there is an additional entrance hall/boot room and WC.  An arch leads through to the sitting room with woodburning stove.  This, with underfloor central heating and double glazing throughout, ensure that the house is a warm and cosy place to which to return after a day in the hills or sightseeing.  There is also a downstairs double bedroom with en suite double shower.

Stairs from the living area lead to a gallery which provides additional seating with a spectacular outlook to the Isles.  Off this are three more bedrooms, the family bath and shower room and a playroom for children.

Sleat is known as 'the Garden of Skye' which, lush and green, is entirely different to the rest of the island.  The traditional crofting  community at Tarskavaig is reached by a single track road from the main Armadale-Broadford highway, readily accessible either by the bridge or ferry from the mainland.  Rarely indeed will you  not find yourself face to face with deer as you make your way to the other side of the peninsula.  The coast line on this side is quite stunning, rugged with rocky headlands, beaches and the ruined castle Dun Scaith to explore, all affording great opportunities for waterside picnics, with arguably the best views of the Cuillins on the whole island.  Look out for seals here, they are perhaps as common in the water as the deer on the hills!

Walkers and climbers will hurry off to the Cuillins.  For something less strenuous and closer to home, you can take boat trips from Ardvasar (shops, cafe, hotel) or visit the gardens and visitor centre at Armadale castle.  To the north, Broadford is the place to go for supermarket shopping and petrol, and beyond there all the attractions of Skye await - Portree, Dunvegan Castle and the Coral Beaches, the Old Man of Storr and the Quiraing, the golf course and the ferry to Raasay at Sconser - the list goes on.

Sleat is also well off for excellent places to eat.  The Hotel at Eilean Iarmain does excellent bar meals and has regular ceilidh evenings, or for another special evening out, you can visit Lady Claire Macdonald's Michelin Star restaurant at Kinloch Lodge or Toravaig House.

Bed linen, towels, oil CH and electricity are all INCLUDED in the rental.  Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.  Smoking is not permitted in the house.  Wi-Fi INCLUDED, subject to provider.

What a wonderful home! Thank you so much for allowing us to stay here at Sea Croft. It is such an amazing place with stunning views to enjoy in great comfort. We walked to the old settlement of Leitir Fura in Kinloch Forest. On the track we were stunned to sea a golden eagle suddenly take off from the path in font of us! Wonderful!.....We are very sorry to be leaving such a peaceful, restful place, but go with so many great memories and endless photographs! The dogs also had a wonderful time too. Thank you for allowing them to stay. Many Thanks. (Hope to be back soon!)

It has been a treat to stay here at Seacroft, Tarscavaig. A lovely, well appointed location, a welcome oasis after weeks of hectic work priorities. We've had a great week here - mostly outdoors, exploring coastal and mountain paths, absorbing the atmosphere and majestic beauty of the Black Cuiillins. Seacroft again? Yes I think this is likely, but for 2 weeks next time.

Reid party, Stirlingshire 02/04/2011

Superb cottage in a stunning location. You could sit for hours looking out over the views. Great walking opportunities for seeing wildlife. Herons galore and spotted a golden eagle today. Highlights, Kinloch Forest (always a favourite) Kylerhea Otter Haven, Glen Brittle and Armadale Castle. The dogs loved it and don't want to leave. Hope to return one day. Thank you

House is so comfortable and everything you could need for an enjoyable holiday. The weather has also been in our favour with lots of sunshine to enjoy the gorgeous views and listen to the bird song. The most exciting trip of our stay was the boat trip to Loch Coruisk. The sun was shining and there was a huge cloud over the mountain range which made it very moody and dramatic. Loch Coruisk is a magical place to visit. Tonight as I write this, the skies are clear with moon shining on the water, what an end to a perfect holiday.

Colledge party, Dumfriesshire 23/04/2011

Thank you for opening your fantastic home to other mums, dad, sons, daughters and dogs. Weather has been superb all week. have visited Portree, Flodigarry, Dunvegan and Armadale. Spent lots of time on the beach and chilling out with a drink and the view. The kids could not believe the space and the toys! Dancing on the decking, including mum. This is the most fabulous, comfortable home. What a fantastic week of weather too. Thank you so much.

Caron party, Aberdeenshire 25/06/2011

Thank you so much for a fantastic weeks holiday in your beautiful home. We arrived needing a restful place to recharge our batteries, and we were not disappointed! Tarskavaig has provided us with an idyllic base from which to see the island. On quieter days it's just been lovely just to wander down to the small beach at the end of the road, or walk up the quiet roads up to the nearby loch and admire all the amazing vistas. When we wanted something more adventurous, it's provided an ideal base from which to travel to Isle of Ornsay, Broadford, Armadale, Portree and north Skye. The real highlight of the holiday has been your wonderful house. At the end of each day we've been so glad to return to somewhere relaxing. The views are incredible and also endlessly interesting with changing scenery, the comings and goings of boats and visits of the local birds of prey and the occasion unicorn sightings! Whenever we've needed anything from books and help to identify the local fauna and flora to brillo pads it's all been within easy reach. I don't think we've ever stayed in such a perfect home away from home and we hope very much to return soon.

Morrison party, Ayrshire 02/07/2011

House and facilities fabulous ... it lived up to all we hoped it would be and more!

Landells party, Tyne & Wear 01/10/2011

We've had a wonderful time staying at Seacroft. For the past several years we have visited Scotland and can honestly say Seacroft is the best place we have stayed. The house is well stocked with everything you need, all modern conveniences etc. It is tastefully decorated and is situated in a beautiful secluded position. Our time staying in Seacroft has gone too quickly - we don't want to leave. Many thanks for allowing us to stay in your lovely home.

Paul and Gwenda, Sheffield 24/09/2011

We agree with the other guests that the house is faultless. We very much enjoyed our stay here. The short woodland walk at Letir Fura is good for dog walkers. We particularly enjoyed our ascent of Blaven; very strong winds stopped us from reaching the summit but the sun came out and the views of Camusunary and the mountains were spectacular. Weather not great but that did not stop us from enjoying our time here

Bowen/Holborn Party, Lancashire 18/02/2012

Thank you Angus, Callum, Lewis & Karen, this house is perfect! The week has flown by sadly! We enjoyed walks everyday and its great to be able to walk from the door and see such amazing views, I have been snapping away with my camera and hope to paint some of these scenes when I get home. This is an artist's paradise! The 'Fairy Pools' at Glen Brittle were awesome, and we haven't been out any further because it's great just around here! Have got some great buzzard shots and a little bambi close up. Very close, well thought out accommodation in a great location, "I'll be back". We were looking for a restful week and found it! A fabulous house with everything you need for a perfect break....day after day of great walks and sightings. Herons, buzzards, oyster catchers and more. Bambi was a treat! Thankfully we had no phone signal and left emails behind! I will miss waking up with a view of the sea and mountains, the fire and the calm. That said I am now refreshed and ready to hit the workplace with a passion. Thanks....

West party, Cheshire 03/03/2012

What can we say....stunning home, amazing location and even the weather played ball most days, even on the two VERY wet and windy days the ever changing views were entertainment enough! We came for a relaxing recuperation break; away from work and day to day hassle. We got that and more! The house is perrfect to return to after trips around the island. To lovely Elgol, Portree and a beer at the Stein Inn. Walks to Dunscaith Castle, Tarskavaig Bay, wellies essential. A luxurious place to relax on these wet days, relaxing by the fire. Wonderful food at Creelers at Broadford it lives up to the reviews. Thanks again to Callum, Angus, Karen and Lewis for sharing such a beautiful home. Not really ready for the trip back to busyness but definitely a reason to come back.

Josiek-boussenot party, Wales 30/07/2011

We could fill in so many pages with our memories of our stay at Seacroft! The house itself deserves the best lines which can be resumed with one word - GORGEOUS!!! and proves the very sense of hospitality of Angus, Karen and children. As we had the best weather possible in Skye (it only rained at night most of the time and a single day was really poor). We were very busy: mile and more of less difficult walks to Sleat Point (wonderful beach) Tokavaig, Quairang, Highland Games in Portree, Clan Donald Musuem, trip to Glenfinnan, boat to Loch Coruisk, Talisker, crazy hours at the beach with the kids; the finest meals at Creelers in Broadford. Well, we probably forgot something for sure! Hope we could come again one day. Thank you very much.

Whittleton party, Hull 10/03/2012

We've had a splendid holiday in Sea Croft - thank you for sharing this wonderful home with us. The house is in a fabulous location, super views - and is very well equipped and furnished for every need. We've travelled the length and breadth of the island. Sea Croft is a great "get away from it all" place. Making meals in the house was a real delight - the kitchen is well equipped. Thank you.

Pamela and Henry, Ayr 12/05/2012

In week 1 there was a gale and snow in the mountains; week 2 was a heatwave of Mediterranean proportions. Skye weather from freezing to 36 degrees in the sun! We enjoyed the variety, be it relaxing by the wood burner or supping cool drinks on the decking. Sea Croft is a wonderful home in which to enjoy whatever comes. We are return visitors, happy to potter around locally and soak in the sights and sounds of Sleat countryside. On day 2 we spotted 36 spieces of bird around the township and bay, the total closing 50 eventually. A highlight of our time was watching an otter fishing along the shore of the bay. Sea Croft is set in a naturalists paradise, a great base for walkers and a relaxing home for dreamers to gaze at the view. Thank you Karen, Angus, Callum & Lewis for sharing your Highland home with us.

Rossi Family, Italy 30/06/2012

A fantastic week at Sea Croft. The house is beautiful in every way, a perfect holiday location! We were lucky with the weather, even enjoyed a couple of "al fresco" dinners on the decking overlooking the beautiful views. Thank for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful home, we will definitely return soon! Only one thing now left to say is we don't want to go home! Thanks again.

The Petries, Gloucestershire 14/07/2012

We've had a wonderful holiday in your lovely house - such a beautiful setting and so peaceful - very restorative. Delighted that we managed to spot sea eagles, seals, gannets diving for fish in the bay and red deer...I've taken so many photos but none of them will capture the true magnificence of the landscape - especially on this part of Skye. Thank you for all the thoughtful extras and for our stay in your beautiful house.

Spiess party, Switzerland 21/07/2012

A wonderful present for my 50th Birthday- 3 weeks in Scotland and 1 of them on this beautiful island, in this gorgeous house!

Jones party, Cheshire 28/07/2012

What a great house you have in amazing surroundings. It was Dad's 60th Birthday so it was a great opportunity to gather all of the family together. We all really enjoyed going for long walks along the peninsula and even saw a family of otters on a couple of occasions. It's amazing how peaceful it is around these parts, off the beaten track so to say....Thank you very much for a great holiday on the island.

Hannant party, Tyne & Wear 04/08/2012

Very sad to be leaving this lovely home and Skye on such a beautiful, sunny morning. We've had a great week on Skye and have enjoyed this lovely house. It has been so comfortable and homely and the views are fab. It's great to find a lovely house that allows dogs! We've managed to fit in lots of trips- all worth a mention: glass bottom boat trip at Kyle (Atlantis), Talisker, Elgol, Kinloch Forest, Fairy Pools, Dunscaith Castle. Love this area and this house and hope to return. Thank you so much.

Adele (aged 11), Clwyd 11/08/2012

We have had a great time in Sea Croft. It has all the stuff we needed and enough room for five. It has been perfect weather until the last day. We walked down to the beach and then kept going along a path. We ended up in a little cove. The sea was ever so clear it looked like the Great Barrier Reef! We are sad to be leaving Sea Croft. So thank you.
