Springfields Cottage occupies a truly excellent position on the misty Isle of Skye, situated as it is just off the A87 Skye Bridge-Portree road, with fantastic views across Broadford Bay to the mountains beyond.  It is a most convenient base for exploring not just the island itself, but also for cutting back across the bridge (toll-free now) to explore the mainland on the other side, where Plockton, the Applecross peninsula and the glorious mountains of Torridon await exploration.

The house itself is a traditional, detached former croft house, standing in its own extensive gardens.  Inside, it has been carefully refurbished to a high specification, while features such as the exposed stone wall in the sitting room and the coombed ceilings and dormer windows in the upper storey add to its character.  Electric storage heating and the wood burning stove in the sitting room make it a cosy retreat in all weathers.

The sandy beach at Ashaig is within a five minute walk of the cottage, while nearby Broadford (3m) offers a  selection of shops, (including a supermarket), garage, hotels, restaurants etc.  For special dining out, Lady Claire Macdonald's Kinloch Lodge and the Eilean Iarmain Hotel are just a short drive away down the Sleat peninsula.  Other attractions at this end of the island include Armadale Castle Gardens, and a drive over the hills to Elgol, where a boat will take you across Loch Scavaig, right under the towering Black Cuillin.  And don't forget your walking boots, for even if you don't feel up to tackling the mighty Cuillins themselves, there are many other less taxing but equally enjoyable walks to undertake.

You are also well placed for visiting the otter hide at Kylerhea, reached by another dramatic hill drive, with spectacular views of the mountains on the mainland.  A little ferry plies back and forward in summer between Kylerhea and Glenelg.

There is a golf course at Sconser, about 20 miles up the coast, and the area offers plenty of scope too for sailing and sea and loch fishing.

Bed linen, electricity and fuel for the stove are INCLUDED in the rental and towels may be hired.  Up to two well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.
