The landscape of the whole of the west coast of Scotland is one of the most superb in the world - when the sun shines and the midges are not on the prowl! You have been warned - you will need midge cream to experience this area without pain! However, it is a part of Scotland not to be missed. Argyll & Bute lies on the southern section of the west coast and is characterised by the long peninsula of Kintyre, many long sea lochs penetrating deep into the mainland, and magnificent views inland towards the mountains and seaward towards the islands. The main islands in the southern part of this region are Bute, Islay, Jura and Colonsay, whereas further north, opposite Oban, lie the islands of Lismore, Mull, Iona, Coll and Tiree.
Apart from the stunning scenery, there are many activities on offer - waterpsorts, walking, challenging mountain climbing, golfing (eg. at Machrihanish at the Mull of Kintyre), mountain biking, horse riding and many more. Even if you are not into sailing, it is interesting to watch yachts navigate the Crinan Canal near Lochgilphead. The area is steeped in history, for example, the early Christian settlement at Iona and the prehistoric site at Kilmartin Glen.

4 miles from Crinan, 6 miles from Tayvallich and 7 miles from Lochgilphead, this old stone threshing-barn - standing detached on a hillock, in its spacious garden - has been excellently converted and comfortably furnished to make a truly delightful and cosy holiday home in this area of outstanding natural beauty.

6 miles south of Inveraray and 2 miles from the village of Furnace, The Studio is a comfortable completely self-contained cottage with its own entrance - semi-detached from the side of substantial Braleckan House which stands in its own large fenced garden (shared by tenants) facing south with sweeping views of the Cowal Hills.

In a stunning situation right on the shores of Loch Long, yet less than an hour?s drive from Glasgow, the Croft is a stylish and quite spectacular conversion of, yes, an old croft. Loch Lomond is just over the hill and there is easy access both to the west coast round Oban and to Loch Fyne and Inveraray.

6 miles south of Inveraray and 2 miles south of Furnace, Leckan is a completely self-contained comfortable accommodation with its own entrance within the substantial Victorian farmhouse 'Braleckan' which faces over Loch Fyne to the Cowal Hills and has a large garden shared by all tenants.

A detached old stone cottage standing on its own on a hillside overlooking a loch and hills - car access to the door - all mod cons and an open fire - that is most people's ideal holiday cottage and such a one is Ardchyline Cottage about 3 miles north of Strachur on Loch Fyne, some 17 miles from Inveraray.

This gem of a cottage has a perfect situation high on the hillside on the edge of the village of Ardrishaig in Argyll, with wonderful views out across the sparkling waters of Loch Fyne. Set in delightful and extensive gardens, it has been converted by the owners with meticulous attention to detail to make an extremely comfortable holiday home which you will be loathe to leave at the end of your stay.
