Treasure Island Cottage is a 'compact and bijou', in the most charming sense of the words, traditional stone cottage situated quietly in a side lane near the centre of Braemar (shops, pubs, hotels and restaurants).

The cottage's name is not a fanciful invention - it is in fact the very cottage in which Robert Louis Stevenson wrote some of his famous book when he lived there in 1881!
It has since been carefully converted and modernised, with a large (shared) safe garden and is ideal either for a couple or a family with young children, as the small twin-bedded room is accessed through the double bedroom.
One can’t help speculating where in the cottage Stevenson would have worked on his novel - could you actually be sitting in the same room where he devised his masterpiece? Certainly he would have found the cottage sitting room a congenial place, though it is doubtful whether it would have been as comfortable then as it is now.
The exposed stone wall and the large fireplace round the wood-burning stove which give the room such character might have been there but certainly none of the modern comforts guests can now enjoy. The kitchen in the cottage, while simple, is well-equipped with all that is needed.
A rather attractive turning staircase leads up to the two bedrooms. The double is bright and attractive, with its large dormer window affording plenty of light and also a lovely view over the garden. Next door is where the children will love having their own cosy little den.
Outside there is a charming little gravelled garden area (with furniture).
Braemar, with its close proximity to the Queen's Highland retreat at Balmoral (9 miles), is a very popular holiday destination. It is superb walking country, with the Grampians to the north and Lochnagar to the south.
For the less energetic, there are delightful woodland and riverside walks in the immediate area. It is also an ideal base for skiing with Glenshee (14 miles) and the Lecht (23 miles), which also has a dry ski slope, both in easy reach.
Fishermen will enjoy good sport in the tumbling local rivers and quiet lochs and for those who prefer to see the countryside on four legs rather than two, there are trekking and riding centres nearby. There are gloriously situated golf courses at Braemar and Ballater (16 miles). The area also has a large number of interesting castles and stately homes which are open to the public.
Aberdeen is just under 60 miles away and Inverness (77 miles) is also accessible for a day trip. There are excellent beaches on both the Aberdeen and Moray coasts and the 'Fair City' of Perth (with excellent leisure facilities and shops) is also just under 50 miles away.
