Set off the beaten tourist track but only half an hour's drive from Inverness and an hour's drive from Fort William, the cottage is ideally placed for exploring all the magnificent Highland scenery surrounding it.
Polmaily Bothy is an old stone 'bothy' which has been architecturally re-designed internally. It stands detached, with its own pretty patio garden (with furniture), at the edge of what was formerly a traditional farm-steading.
Double-glazed and very cosy, it has a traditional stone-flagged floor and wooden beams. Its wide doorways and level flooring make it ideal for those with limited mobility.
The open plan living area is particularly attractive and has been laid out for maximum practicality. An L-shaped room, the cosy sitting area is at one end with two exposed stone walls and the cheerful wood-burning stove to toast yourself in front of. There is a window seat at one of the windows, with some handy binoculars, meaning that spotting the local wildlife from the warmth and comfort of the cottage has never been so easy. The other part of the ‘L’ is devoted to a dining area and neat modern kitchen area that is well-equipped with appliances.
There are three bedrooms in total, that are all bright, uncluttered and prettily furnished. Having one of the double bedrooms downstairs, together with a shower room with a walk in shower again takes care of access issues. Upstairs there are two further bedrooms, a double and a twin, as well as a handy WC alongside. Polmaily Bothy is altogether a most comfortable house for all seasons of the year.
Just 3 miles south is Castle Urquhart on the side of Loch Ness where the famous 'monster' sightings have been recorded.
To the west is Hamish Macbeth's 'Plockton' and the Isle of Skye. Northwards is the stunning scenery of Glen Affric where 'The Last of The Mohicans' was filmed in this miniature Canadian Rockies like scenery many years ago.
Both sides of Loch Ness can be explored by car or boat. There is excellent walking on the Forestry Commission land round about and there is golf and riding nearby with the chairlift up Ben Nevis at Aonach Mhor (skiing in winter) only a 45 minute drive away.
