Overview

Two miles south of the village of Ettrickbridge (with pub/bar meals) bordering the B7009 which runs through the lovely Ettrick Valley from Selkirk (9 miles) in the central Borders down to Langholm (38 miles) in Dumfriesshire.

In the immediate surroundings, in addition to the wooded glen to the front, from the back and side of the cottage there are magnificent views down the valley. The north west facing garden is just perfect for sitting out on a fine summer evening and watching the sun go down behind the hills. The caretakers' cottage is its only neighbour.

Inside, Mossbrae has been comprehensively and charmingly refurbished by its owners and is bright, cosy and most comfortable, with oil central heating.

This is a very genuine cottage that is very well presented and maintained by its experienced caretakers. The sitting room is comfortably furnished with its stone fireplace is comfortably furnished. With a dining area at one end, guests have the choice of eating there or in the well-equipped kitchen.

All on one level there are three spacious bedrooms, a double room and two twin rooms. The double room faces the forest at the front while the twin looks over the fields at the back.

Outside, there is parking at the door and a large enclosed gravelled and paved area to the side (with furniture). The low wall round the garden encloses it but will present no barrier to determined dogs, so with sheep very often grazing in the field beyond, some care is required.

Map & Local

This is wonderful hill country, with superb walking available in all directions.

Quiet roads take you easily through spectacular scenery to all the small Border towns and many places of interest. The nearest of these, the historic burgh of Selkirk (8 miles) has all facilities including a swimming pool.

There is riding at Ashkirk (8 miles) while lonely and beautiful St Mary's Loch (12 miles) offers excellent facilities for sailing and wind surfing, or just for relaxing with a picnic and watching the children enjoy themselves in the burn.

Mountain biking enthusiasts will find that they are only 17 miles from Cardrona, which is rapidly emerging as one of the foremost centres in the country for dedicated hill and forest trails. Salmon/trout fishing (fly only) on the River Ettrick and in stocked lochs can usually be arranged with the owner. Birds and and other wildlife abound, so don't go far without your binoculars!

If you fancy a day trip to the capital Edinburgh, it is easily reachable by car in around an hour, or 50 minutes by train from Galashiels (14.5 miles). There is a plethora of shops, museums, galleries and restaurants in the city, as well as the chance to take in historic sights such as Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace.
