All true countrylovers will queue for this cottage just 5 miles from the main Carlisle/Edinburgh (A7) road and Hawick - offered now for the first time as a holiday cottage.  1,000ft up in the Border Hills, at the end of a one-mile track - completely hidden from all except skylarks and sparrow-hawks up above - the house has an absolutely stupendous view stretching south-west for some 60 miles (without a house in sight) to the distant hills that border England.

Recently and carefully renovated in a pleasant country style, well equipped and with good central-heating, this was an old stone cottage originally occupied by the Estate shepherd, and it is still a location where children can run wild in safety.  There is table tennis, darts and even a resident owl in the barn!

All the rich Border countryside is on your doorstep here.  Excellent fishing can be arranged on the Estate.  Golf courses of all levels are within easy reach, as are local restaurants and the knitwear and cashmere outlets for which Hawick is famous.  This is wonderful riding and walking country, starting straight from the door.  For those wishing to range further afield, the Solway coast, Edinburgh, The Lake District and Northumbria are all within easy visiting distance.

Heating is by oil central heating (First £15 INCLUDED) and open fire.  Bed-linen and towels are available for hire. Pets are welcome. No smoking within the house.

Our second time here and we've had a fantastic two weeks. It's a great base to explore the Borders and the North of England. And it's just simply great to stay around the cottage all day too. To be able to say to the kids "Go out and play. Come back when you're hungry" is simply priceless. And I've finally seen the tawny owl. The owners were as friendly as we remembered. Thanks to Kevin the shepherd for letting the boys help with the sheep. We'll be back.

What a lovely place! Cottage perfect, space and freedom great, a really relaxing week. Thank you. The piano was a great surprise. Built a den in the woods. Great place!

Stacey party, Cheshire 28/12/2009

Fantastic week, fantastic location and awesome snow. We had about a foot at least and still snowing as we leave. Lily and Tom really enjoyed their first experience of snow, made all the better by the smell of wood burning and a warm house to return to. We must thank the family for the lifts up and down the track and for coming to check on us on New Year's Day.

Perfection personified! Absolute heaven. How wonderful to get away from the rat race. It was wonderful to be able to walk freely over the hills, to take in the views, and then return to the cottage and sit by the fire. The cottage is like home from home. We will definitely be returning. It was great to see the shepherd doing his thing and to see his dog herding the sheep around.

Don't want to go home. Abbeys, Smailholm and Hermitage so interesting. Climbed Eildon Hills and walked in Craik Forest.

Holden party, Lancashire 24/04/2010

No traffic, no telephone, no post, and no rain (well, hardly any). What a marvellous week!
