When you are going all the way to the Outer Hebrides, you want to be quite sure that the journey is going to be worth it, not only in terms of the scenery and places of interest, but also the accommodation you will find there. You certainly need to have no such worries about Cleascro House, a modern and very spacious house in a quiet and rural location at Achmore which is, in addition, very central for touring all over Lewis and Harris (the two parts of the same island).
Inside, Cleascro is most beautifully presented and offers top quality accommodation. On the ground floor, in addition to an elegant sitting room, there is a separate dining room and a further family room. The kitchen is large and well equipped, with a gas Rangemaster cooker, and all the usual appliances are to be found in it and the utility room. On this level too there are two bedrooms, a double and a twin, and a bathroom, so those who prefer not to tackle stairs are well catered for.
On the first floor are four further bedrooms, two doubles and two twins, which all have en suite facilities and, just to top it all off, there is a further sitting area and library. Not much, if anything, left to wish for, then!
There is plenty of parking outside the house and, to the front, a quite charming and secluded garden with gazebo and extensive views to the south over the hills of Harris and Uig.
As already said, Achmore is about as central as you can get for seeing all there is to see on this remarkable island. The capital, Stornoway, is under 10 miles away and offers all you will need in terms of facilities. The not-to-be-missed historic sites of the Callanish Standing Stones and the Carloway Broch are within a 10 minute drive, while Tarbert down at the south of the island, is still only 32 miles away.
Touring aside, Lewis and Harris boast some of the most amazing beaches in the country, where the limpid turquoise waters of the Atlantic meet miles of silver sands. Great for walks therefore, which you can alternate with the more strenuous challenge of the surrounding hills. Trout and salmon fishing and shooting can be arranged, and those interested in birdwatching will also find much to interest them here.
Island life really is something different, but if you simply can't bear to leave everyday cares behind, Cleascro House is also equipped with broadband.
Bed linen, towels, oil-CH and electricity are all INCLUDED. Up to two small dogs are welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted in the house.
