This excellent detached bungalow is situated on the Sleat Peninsula in the south of Skye, that part of the island which is often called 'The Garden of Skye'.  It stands in its own large garden where there is a swing and a couple of small ponds (care with young children!) and has a lovely open aspect to the south east with views across the Sound of Sleat to Beinn Sgritheal on the mainland, after which the cottage is named.  There is a sheltered and secluded shingle and sand beach just a short stroll away and the cottage has ample off-road parking.

Inside, the house is bright and spacious, with two double and two single bedrooms, a large, beamed sitting room with open fire, and a dining kitchen with French doors to the garden.

However, if you don't wish to eat in every night, you are spoiled for choice in this part of Skye, with the Eilean Iarmain Hotel a short drive along the road, and Lady Claire Macdonald's Kinloch House a few miles away towards Broadford.  The Ardvasar Hotel to the south also serves good meals.  The cottage is also within walking distance of the Gaelic College, which hosts lots of Gaelic cultural events.

It is no wonder that Skye is arguably the most popular Scottish island for holidays.  Climbers, of course, come to tackle the spectacular Cuillins, of which you have an amazing view just over the back of the peninsula near Ord (where there are also great picnic sites on the machair.)  There are plenty of walking opportunities too for the less energetic as well as all the wonderful off-shore and on-shore wildlife to enjoy.  From Ardvasar, you can take Seafari trips, and whilst there you can also visit the  Clan Donald Centre and gardens at Armadale Castle.  This is also a popular area for game and sea fishing.

To the north is Broadford (13m), which has a supermarket, shops, petrol, banks etc.  It's also worth taking the little single track road down to the Glenelg ferry (runs April-October) at Kylerhea.  Whether you take the ferry or not, it's a spectacular road and you can visit the otter hide at Kylerhea at the same time.

And then, to the north, all the breathtaking scenery of Skye awaits you, Portree, Dunvegan, the Coral Beaches, the Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing, the list is endless and you will doubtless be back for another stay in this snug and most comfortable cottage,

Oil central heating, electricity and bed linen are all INCLUDED in the rental and towels are available for hire to overseas visitors only.  Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement.  Smoking is not permitted in the cottage.  There is a telephone for incoming calls.  Wi-Fi is available, subject to provider.

Had a great time. Cottage is lovely. Could not have asked for better. We loved the secret garden with swing & chute. Jock particularly liked hiding in the long grass. Highly recommend fishing at Armadale pier. Nothing better than catching, gutting & cooking our own mackerel. Thanks for a lovely holiday. We will definitely be back.

What a glorious week. The house is in a fantastic location. The views are terrific. We highly recommend a trip to Plockton....eat lunch outside Plockton Inn. Also don't miss a trip around Ord Tarskavaig loop. The views and beaches are stunning. Cant wait to come back. Please book the weather for us.

We had a wonderful holiday on the Isle of Skye. The cottage has been a fantastic place to stay. Very cosy. We have enjoyed the open fire on the cold nights. The weather has been very good to us. We came prepared for rain but had some glorious sunny days. We will definitely recommend the cottage and the Isle of Skye to our friends.
