Riverside Cottage is a traditional, semi-detached cottage tucked away in the countryside on the Laudale Estate that stretches along the south side of beautiful Loch Sunart, near Strontian (4 miles).

The cottage is reached by 2 miles of estate road and has been fully refurbished to create a warm and inviting holiday home. The open plan living area has a cosy seating area at one end and a kitchen at the other, with a central staircase separating and defining the two. The kitchen is very well-equipped and has lots of space for cooking, with dining right alongside so the cook doesn’t have to miss out on all the conversation and fun.
The useful utility room is right by the front door with laundry facilities and plenty of room for storing coats and muddy boots. There is also a handy double bedroom downstairs, as well as a modern shower room with large walk-in shower.
Upstairs is an airy twin bedroom and a master double bedroom with a stylish en suite that has a double ended bath to relax in and the added bonus of a large, separate shower. Both bedrooms have zip-link beds that can be converted to either a king-size bed or twin beds for extra flexibility.
Outside, the large garden has with a paved patio area (with furniture) from which to look out over the surrounding countryside.
There are plenty of interesting walks on the Estate and the route that follows along the shore of Loch Sunart is particularly picturesque.
The quiet, single track roads are also ideal for cycling and there is wildlife all around with a wide range of birds and even otters to be spotted. You can take a farm tour to see the long thorn highland cattle or have a go at ‘deer stalking by camera’ – great fun and no-one gets hurt. Strontian (4 miles) has some nice little shops and eateries, as well as a PO/general store/petrol station.
The bustling town of Fort William (28 miles) is reachable in about an hour’s drive via the little turntable ferry at Corran and has plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants. It also has a leisure centre, golf course and swimming pool, as well as boat trips out to see the seals on Loch Linnhe.
Further on past Fort William is the Nevis Range Mountain Resort at Torlundy on the Aonach Mor mountain. The resort offers snowsports in the winter, mountain biking on the Witch’s Trails in summer and even has a high wire adventure course. You can visit the Ben Nevis Distillery on the way back and either take a tour or just pick up a ‘wee dram’ to take home with you.
If you are looking for a challenge you may want to try and conquer Britain’s highest mountain Ben Nevis, although make sure you are well prepared as it is quite a trek! It takes about 4 to 5 hours to reach the summit and the views, particularly on a clear day, are absolutely breathtaking.
If you head south from the cottage to Lochaline (17 miles) you can take the ferry across to the magical Isle of Mull for a day trip, perhaps spotting some dolphins on your way across. The town of Tobermory is the capital of the island and is particularly pretty with its string of brightly coloured houses lining the harbour.
