The Glen runs right up almost to the edge of the Cairngorm National Park within seven or eight miles of the Balmoral Forest.
Middlehill is a traditional, stone-built, single storey cottage with lovely views across the glen, standing quite alone in its own grass garden (with furniture) and reached by a short track.
Inside, it has been completely refurbished and modernised and now provides most comfortable accommodation, with the oil-fired central heating ensuring that it is cosy all year round. The sitting room is restful and inviting with the comfortable sofas that are arranged around the cosy wood-burning stove and are conveniently placed for watching TV also. To the rear of this area is the dining table. The kitchen is well-fitted and spacious, with plenty of appliances and work surfaces.
All on one level, a corridor leads through to the bedrooms and bathrooms. The L-shaped double room is particularly charming with the bed sitting in the arm of the ‘L’, so that there is lots of room at the other end of the room. The twin bedroom is more compact, but is also comfortable, cheerful and very appealing. A fully-tiled modern and stylish bathroom completes the accommodation.
Walkers will revel in the scope which this area offers. For instance, the quiet road round the glen provides an easy and enjoyable route for cyclists.
Golfers can slip down to Kirriemuir (5 miles, with all facilities) where there is an excellent local course, the more ambitious can go down to Carnoustie (25 miles) and play the hallowed links there, or cross the Tay Bridge at Dundee into Fife, where St Andrews (38 miles) beckons. Local fishing can be arranged with the owners.
Kirriemuir was the birthplace of JM Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan and his cottage is open to visitors. He also gifted a camera obscura to the town, one of only 3 in Scotland, that gives wonderful views out across the surrounding countryside. Another famous birthplace in the area is that of the late Queen Mother at Glamis Castle and with its towers and turrets and a reputation for being haunted, it is well worth a visit. Bird watchers and ornithologists can visit the RSPB reserve at Kinnordy or go over to Dunkeld to the Loch of the Lowes to view the ospreys which return to nest there each year.
There is a superb beach at Lunan Bay (28 miles), while Dundee (24 miles) offers serious shopping, leisure centres and parks, as well as Captain Scott's ship Discovery which is moored in the harbour.
With regard to eating out there is the Clova Hotel at the head of the Glen (4 miles), the Drovers Inn in the village of Memus (10 miles) and the Strathmore Arms, Glamis (16 miles).

Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED. Electricity is INCLUDED. Heating is by oil central heating (INCLUDED) and wood-burning stove (logs INCLUDED). WiFi is INCLUDED. Water is from a private source which is UV filtered and regularly tested; however (as is typical in many parts of Scotland) it can become discoloured, particularly after heavy rainfall. Guests may therefore prefer to bring bottled water to drink. A maximum of 2 dogs are welcome at an additional charge (2 large, 2 medium or 2 small). If you wish to bring any other pets please contact us and we will see what we can do. No smoking.
