Anyone looking for stylish accommodation amidst stunning scenery will find Carrick View to be just the ticket. This substantial house sits in pretty gardens full of mature plants and trees with a superb outlook over the waters of Loch Long, in the hamlet of Portincaple near Helensburgh (9.5 miles).
The main living area draws guests in with its wonderful loch aspect and as the sitting/dining and kitchen areas are all in together it is a great place to socialise in. A fire crackles away in the wood-burning stove at one end of the room creating a lovely, warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout. Glass doors open up all the way along the front wall, allowing light to flood in whilst showing off the gorgeous view all the way across the loch to the rugged mountains beyond!
A large island alongside the chic dining table provides extra work space for cooking and neatly houses a wine fridge and breakfast bar seating. The entrance hall has handy storage for coats, etc and there is also a good-sized utility room with laundry facilities and a WC off it.
In the delightful, en suite master bedroom is a super king-size bed and doors out to a raised deck that keep the room nice and bright. The other charming double bedroom has a king-size bed and sliding doors revealing the superb loch view that is a joy to wake up to in the mornings. All on the same level are also a colourful twin bedroom and modern bathroom.
Behind the house lies a private garden and patio where picnic style seating has been set up in a prime spot overlooking the sparkling waters of the loch. It is just the place to linger over a BBQ or drinks in the evening whilst taking in the wonderful, expansive vista. There is plenty of parking space by the front door (3 steps up) and, as the house is set up a rough drive that is steep in places, it should be driven slowly with care.
The beautiful shore of Loch Long is only a quarter of a mile away and fishing can be arranged there. If a break from cooking beckons the Green Kettle Inn less than a mile away has a restaurant/tearoom for meals out or a quick stop off for tea and cakes.
Nearby Garelochhead (2 miles) at the top of the Gare Loch has a couple of grocery shops for supplies, a pub and some excellent eateries to sample.
From the train station in Garelochhead it is under an hour’s journey into the city of Glasgow for a day trip spent shopping or sightseeing. Oban is also reachable in around 2 hours from where ferry services run out to some of the farther flung islands.
There are lots of different attractions in Balloch (17 miles) where Loch Lomond Shores is based. As well as watersports, an aerial adventure course, a captivating aquarium, mini golf and a range of interesting shops there is a pub restaurant and an attractive sandy beach to enjoy a walk along.
Helensburgh (9.5 miles) is a popular resort town with lovely little shops to wander around. Bikes can be hired for exploring a bit further afield and there is a dry ski slope for those looking to brush up on their snowsports skills. Helensburgh is also home to Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s famous Hill House which contains lots of fine examples of the designer’s fascinating work.
