Set down a quiet, leafy little lane right in the heart of the picturesque town of Dunkeld in Perthshire is The Old Bakehouse, a cosy maisonette that sits within the pretty St Ninian’s Gardens.

A little turret with a spiral staircase leads up to the main living accommodation where a comfy L-shaped seating area surrounds the warming electric flame effect stove. At the other end of the room the handy dining area has a hatch through to the kitchen and there is even a chalkboard where you can write up the evening’s menu, should you so desire.
The spiral staircase leads up further to the two attractive bedrooms, a double and a twin, both of which have coombed ceilings and roof windows that keep them light and bright and showcase the lovely views out over the gardens.
Outside there is parking for one car and seating in the community gardens right by the house. There are some pleasant walks to be had along the riverside straight from the door and it is also only a short stroll to all of the shops, pubs and restaurants that Dunkeld has to offer.
Please note: Due to the layout of the house and the number of steps that provide access to it, The Old Bakehouse is not suitable for those with mobility issues.
Dunkeld has a good range of charming little shops to explore, as well as a supermarket, bike hire shop, an award-winning salmon smokery and plenty of eateries and takeaways.
The impressive Cathedral is in easy walking distance and is delightful to wander round with its beautiful stained glass windows and pretty grounds set by the side of the River Tay. Permits are available for trout fishing on sections of the river and the Dunkeld & Birnam Golf Club is happy to welcome visitors to enjoy a round on its 18 hole course, one of the most scenic in the whole of Perthshire.
The wildlife reserve at the Loch of the Lowes (2 miles) will be of great interest to wildlife enthusiasts, as it is home to red squirrels, pine martens and even beavers. This freshwater loch also attracts a wide range of birdlife including a pair of breeding ospreys (in season) and there is a live webcam feed so you can keep an eye on their progress after you go home.
Pitlochry (13 miles) is known for its delightful ‘theatre in the hills’ and famous salmon ladder and there are watersports on offer at nearby Ballinluig that include white water rafting and river tubing, as well as traditional Highland games, clay pigeon shooting and quad biking back on dry land. For winter sports, the Glensee Ski Centre is only about an hour’s drive away.
The bustling city of Perth (14 miles) has lots of shops, pubs and restaurants. It also has an ice skating rink, a racecourse, a large leisure centre with 5 different swimming pools and several interesting museums. The historical sites of Scone Palace, Elcho Castle and Huntingtower Castle near Perth are also well worth visiting.
