Middleton Bothy provides bijou studio accommodation that is ideal for a honeymoon or simply for a relaxing holiday in beautiful countryside. However, the accommodation has certainly been refurbished with romance in mind.

Inside, the Bothy has a very relaxed, welcoming feel to it and several original features have been retained, such as the unusual lancet windows. The living area is dominated by the beautiful draped double bed that just begs to be slept in. The TV, on a swivel arm from the wall, can be seen equally well from both the bed and the sofa.
The comfortable seating is by the warming wood-burning stove over which, when the bothy doubtless used to house an entire family, the soup would be stirred in a large pot. You could do that too, if you wished, or take the simpler option and make use of the modern galley kitchen.
The kitchen is compact and well organised, making food preparation simple. Having it tucked away round the corner means that if you simply can’t be bothered washing up before settling down for the evening, all the dirty dishes are nicely out of the way. A shower room completes the accommodation.
Outside, the bothy has its own adjacent parking and a small garden with a gravelled area (with furniture) from which to enjoy the lovely south-facing views. In short, Middleton Bothy is a very well conceived little house in an absolutely lovely setting.
There is plenty of scope for excellent walking in the area; nearby Kirriemuir (all facilities) gives access to the beautiful Angus Glens, Prosen and Clova, or you can walk the Cateran Trail.
The quiet country roads round about provide plenty of opportunities for cycling, and there are golf courses at Alyth (3 miles) and Kirriemuir, as well as the prestigious Rosemount courses at Blairgowrie. Fishing is available on a number of lochs and rivers in the area.
Places to see include the waterfall at Reekie Linn, just a few minutes from the cottage, while historical sites such as Glamis Castle, Scone Palace, Balmoral, Blair Castle and Captain Scott's survey ship Discovery in Dundee are all within an easy drive. Rather further away, but still easily accessible for a day trip, are the beautiful lochs Tummel and Rannoch. Wildlife enthusiasts may wish to visit the RSPB reserve at Kinordy, or see the ospreys on the Loch of the Lowes near Dunkeld.
In fact you are very much at the centre of things here, almost equidistant between Pitlochry, on the Great North Road to Aviemore and the Cairngorms, and the coast. The Cairngorms offer a host of activities, with a particular emphasis on the local wildlife. On the coast, there is a wonderful beach at Lunan Bay near Montrose, and if the surrounding golf courses are not already enough, Carnoustie itself is within an easy drive. There is also a riding establishment at Kirkmichael, if you prefer to take in the lovely local scenery on four legs rather than two.
