This cute ‘roses round the door’ house is the perfect hideaway for couples to enjoy a romantic break together amidst some gorgeous, rural scenery. With walking and hiking right from the doorstep and so much more to explore nearby, the holiday agenda is sure to fill up quickly with the cottage providing the perfect base to return to after the day’s adventures.
Tired feet can be perked up by the wood-burning stove in the sitting room and the dining table by the window has lovely views to take in whilst dining. Off the elegant kitchen the evening sun can be enjoyed from the comfort of the sunroom, perhaps with a favourite tipple or a good book.
Adding to the romantic feeling throughout is the huge (super king-size) four-poster bed in the double bedroom, that has a useful dressing area just off it on the way through to the en suite bathroom. There is the flexibility of the convenient shower over the bath or, if preferred, spend time luxuriating in a nice bubble bath. The bathroom can be accessed from the hallway as well, which comes in handy.
Fully appreciate the expansive scene spread out before the cottage from the outdoor dining area by the front door, with rolling hills and farmland surrounding the house for miles around. West Cairns is set up half a mile of rough track that should be driven slowly and carefully (may not be suitable for low slung vehicles).
The Kinloch House Hotel (2 miles) is good for meals out and Blairgowrie (5 miles) has all the shops, pubs and restaurants that could be required as well as being the starting point for the Cateran Trail.
The town is known as the ‘Gateway to Glenshee’, the extensive snowsport resort (11 miles) where visitors can ski/snowboard or make use of the chairlift in milder months for hiking and munro bagging.
It is easy to head over to the Angus coastline for beachy days as a wonderful stretch of sand can be found at Broughty Ferry (26 miles) where the imposing Broughty Castle can be seen dominating the horizon. The castle is free to enter and is fascinating to wander around and find out about all of its absorbing history. It is only a short drive into Dundee (23.5 miles) if a trip to the city beckons.
The Loch of the Lowes RSPB reserve (8 miles) covers over 300 acres of the rolling landscape around the loch and is an absolute mecca for wildlife with squirrels, woodpeckers and an array of other birdlife that call the woodland home. One of the highlights of the site is the opportunity of seeing ospreys nesting with hides and telescopes provided for a proper, up-close view.
For an adrenalin rush the full or half day off-road driving at Land Rover Experience Scotland (6.5 miles) is just the ticket. They offer the chance to take on some challenging terrain in one of their Land Rovers and it is lots of fun driving up forestry tracks and splashing through deep water.
A great day can be had at Bowland Trails (6 miles) where sled rides pulled by their Siberian huskies are a real experience not to be easily forgotten. There are also highland cows that can be groomed and even hand fed.
