Sitting in a pretty row of traditional cottages overlooking the attractive village of Braemar is Glen Mar Cottage, a beautifully presented Highland retreat in walking distance of the local amenities and set within the Cairngorms National Park.

In the cosy snug right at the heart of the cottage is a wood-burning stove that creates a warm and inviting welcome and is ideal to relax in front of after busy days of exploring.
The chic interior continues through to the open plan sitting/dining room/kitchen that is spacious and well-equipped with large windows that ensure it is light and bright throughout. From the comfy seating area in the kitchen doors lead out to the private patio and charming garden.
All of the bedrooms benefit from having king-size beds to stretch out on and each also has their own luxurious, modern en suite. There are three double bedrooms in total with one downstairs and two upstairs so it is an ideal setup for couples who enjoy holidaying together whilst still having some of their own privacy. The master bedroom is very generously sized with a step that leads up to a bathroom where there is the choice of the bath for a soak or a huge walk-in shower.
Private parking is in the gravelled area by the front door and, to the rear, is a lovely grassed garden that is shared with the sister property, Glen Brae Cottage, next door. The cottage has its own patio area with seating from which to admire the views of St Margaret's church and the hills beyond with swifts swooping overhead in the summer. With doors leading directly out from the kitchen area it is the perfect spot for BBQs. Glen Mar Cottage and Glen Brae Cottage can both be let by bigger groups wanting to holiday alongside each other.
It is worth taking some time to have a wander around the village’s interesting range of shops for gifts, souvenirs and even traditional Highland dress such as kilts and sporrans, as well as the usual supermarket supplies. There is also a good selection of eateries to choose from for lunch or an evening meal if a night off from cooking beckons.
Try a round of golf on Braemar’s picturesque course that is actually the highest in Scotland, sitting as it does at 1,200 feet above sea level. A 15 minute drive leads out to the Linn of Dee waterfall where the powerful River Dee passes through a deep natural rock gorge and is particularly impressive after heavy rainfall.
Within the National Park there are a total of 18 different munros to tackle or, for the less energetic, head up Morrone Hill just outside the village for wonderful panoramic views and the chance to see the deer that call it home. Guided walking tours with knowledgeable guides are available, or off road 4x4 tours that allow for exploration in comfort with wildlife to spot including mountain hares, golden eagles and red squirrels.
Whisky lovers will want to visit the Royal Lochnagar Distillery (10 miles) just outside of Crathie where there a range of tours and tastings available. For those on the whisky trail the Edradour Distillery and Blair Athol Distillery are just over an hour’s drive away near Pitlochry (39 miles).
The Glenshee ski resort is only 7 miles from Braemar and The Lecht resort is reachable in about 45 minutes’ drive for winter sports or mountain biking in the summer months. If a day trip to the city is on the agenda, it is only an hour and 20 minutes’ drive into Perth or an hour and a half to Aberdeen.
