At the heart of the house is a wonderful full-height living area that is open plan with a feeling of light and space that abounds throughout. A wood-burning stove with a feature flue sits at its centre with the sofas positioned perfectly for toe toasting whilst swapping stories about the day’s adventures. Everything is easily to hand in the kitchen area that conveniently has the dining table just alongside.
For extra flexibility, the cottage’s two bedrooms can be set up with either a super king-size bed or twin beds depending on requirements. The pretty downstairs bedroom has a shower room just next door and the incredibly spacious mezzanine level bedroom has a modern en suite shower room. It also has a charming little reading nook that looks over glass balustrades to the living area below.
Views of the grassed garden and surrounding woodland can be enjoyed in comfort from the wood-fired Dutch tub that can be found out on the covered deck alongside picnic style seating. Guests have access to a shared games room (with a ping pong table), a Scandinavian-style BBQ hut that seats 10 people and a play area.
Combining the croft with its sister property, Logies Croft, just across the way is a great way for larger parties of guests to holiday together but still have their own place to head back to after days spent out exploring.
One of the best known sights in the area is historic Pluscarden Abbey (1 mile) that dates back to 1230 and is still occupied by an order of Benedictine monks to this day.
The nearby alpaca farm is a must for the agenda as they offer the chance to lead these amazing animals on a trek, with a few stops along the way for them to munch some grass. In Elgin (6 miles) the superb 13th century cathedral is fascinating to wander around as it is still remarkably intact despite its age.
Miles and miles of cycle tracks can be found running through the Culbin Forest (17 miles) and the Moray Monster mountain biking trails on the outskirts of Fochabers (15 miles) are well worth trying out for a bit more of a challenge.
The sandy beach at Lossiemouth (11 miles) has beautiful clear waters and lots of rock pools to investigate. An array of other beaches can be visited further along the coast and at Spey Bay (18.5 miles) the Scottish Dolphin Centre showcases the amazing bottlenose dolphins that frolic out in the sparkling Moray Firth.
Salmon fishing can be arranged on the River Findhorn that flows into scenic Findhorn Bay in Findhorn (11.5 miles). Findhorn also has a delightful stretch of sandy beach and a wide variety of birdlife can be spotted in the nature reserve in the bay.
It is just over half an hour’s drive to the Cairngorms National Park where there are a huge range of outdoor activities to try including walking, hiking, mountaineering, cycling and snowsports to name but a few.
