This traditional seaside house makes very clever use of the internal space throughout, with the views out across the rocks to the sea beyond providing a stunning backdrop to each and every stay.
It is hard not be completely mesmerised by the perfectly framed seascape beyond the huge picture window in the sitting/dining room. The stunning outlook is everchanging as light dances on the water, boats bob past and wildlife such as seals and seabirds often make welcome appearances. It is all warmed through by a wood-burning stove and it is well worth bringing along binoculars, or even better a telescope, as the Northern Lights have been spotted here.
Tea for two or a romantic brekkie can be shared at the cute little breakfast bar in the neat kitchen for a relaxed start to the day and the interesting, industrial touches in the kitchen are continued in the compact shower room. At the front of the house is a cosy double bedroom with traditional wood panelling.
The cottage has its own dedicated parking space just across the road and garden steps that lead directly down to the shoreline below. Breathe in that refreshing sea air from the secluded outdoor seating area and soak in the expansive view of the dramatic, rocky shoreline laid out before it. In terms of locations, it really is tough to beat.
Along the coast at Fraserburgh (2.5 miles) there are literally miles of fantastic sandy beach to enjoy strolls on whilst keeping an eye out for inquisitive seals popping up unexpectedly. A choice of local cafés offer the ultimate seaside treat of fish and chips, perhaps followed by a visit to one of the nearby ice cream parlours.
Lighthouses are an important fixture on the landscape in this area and the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses at Kinnaird Head, Scotland’s very first lighthouse, is a real celebration of their inner workings and interesting history.
The golf club in Fraserburgh has both an 18 hole course and a 9 hole parkland course to try out or, those who fancy taking to the water can have a lesson with the surf school that caters for everyone from total beginners through to more experienced surfers.
There are more delightful old villages to take in dotted along this wonderful stretch of coastline with Gardenstown, Crovie and Pennan being particularly picturesque as they are built right into the cliffs behind them.
The beautiful Moray coastline can be easily explored from Pitullie, with old fishing villages and towns scattered along its route. A huge choice of whiskey distilleries, castles and Bow Fiddle Rock at Portknockie are all within an hour's drive.
