Occupying a peaceful, leafy setting down a gated driveway in the heart of the quaint village of Nethy Bridge is Waterside Cottage, sitting right by the pretty River Nethy to the north of the scenic Cairngorms National Park.

Inside, the sitting room with its dual aspect picture windows is the perfect place to unwind and soak in the relaxing atmosphere. Guests can also spread out into the bright and airy sunroom next door that is very inviting and has been equipped with its own wood-burning stove for added cosiness.
As the kitchen and dining room are in together it is an ideal layout for socialising before and after meals with the nominated chef not having to miss out on any of the chat. Sliding glass doors by the dining table open out to the patio and garden beyond.
With two attractive double bedrooms and a twin room (with an additional bunk bed above) to choose from all on the one level, the house offers great flexibility for guests. Completing the indoor accommodation are a modern bathroom with a bath and spacious wetroom style shower, a WC, a utility room where washing can be tidied away neatly and a useful wee boot room area by the entrance.
Parking is right by the front door with plenty of space to turn around and to the front and rear mature trees in the large, woodland garden create a lovely secluded feeling. Picnic seating on the south-facing patio makes a handy extension to the dining kitchen in fine weather and steps lead up to the lawn that slopes gently down through trees to the River Nethy (please be aware there is unfenced access to the river from the garden). There is also a open pond (unfenced) within the garden so care should be taken, particularly with children and dogs. A children’s climbing frame is situated in the garden and adventurous children should be supervised by parents at all times.
While it may be tempting to stay put and take in the tranquil surroundings, the array of activities available nearby will keep even the most adventurous types entertained. The cottage’s convenient central location means it is only a quick stroll to the little shop and a hotel bar/restaurant where lunch, dinner or delicious afternoon teas can be sampled.
The Loch Garten Nature Reserve (3.5 miles) is well known with one of the main draws for visitors from April to August being the pair of breeding ospreys that return every year. A CCTV camera is positioned up at the nest giving a bird’s eye view right into it as the fluffy little chicks hatch and grow. Their progress can then be tracked via their website after your visit.
A challenging 9 hole golf course can be found at Carrbridge (10.5 miles) and just outside the village is the Landmark Forest Adventure Park that children will absolutely adore. In fact, it may be hard to tear them away from the roller coasters, tree top adventure courses, mini diggers and the amazing Dinosaur Kingdom with huge moving models that create a Jurassic Park style experience.
Aviemore (10 miles) is the place for supermarket shopping or jumping on the train for a day in Inverness which is just a 40 minute journey way. Various watersports can be tried out on both Loch Morlich (14 miles) and Loch Insh (19 miles).
The Cairngorm Mountain Resort (11 miles) is fantastic for skiing and snowboarding with several lifts that make short work of the tough mountain ascents. The resort is not just for the winter months though, as in the summer there are walking trails, tubing, zip lining and the mountain garden to explore that is an excellent haven for wildlife.

Please note - there is unfenced access from the garden of Waterside Cottage directly to the river and the pond in the grounds is also unfenced, care must be taken.
