Aviemore is perhaps the best known tourist centre of the area and is a small town in a lovely setting beneath the Cairngorm itself. Developed from a winter ski resort it now has attractions galore, both organised and scenic, to tempt the year round visitor. Nearby Boat of Garten is famous for its ospreys and just a few miles further is Grantown-on-Spey, beyond which the Strathspey valley offers legendary fishing, walking and, of course, the distilleries for which the area is so famous.

A Wild, Mountainous Region
Although Aviemore is famous as a ski centre, visitors can enjoy a range of watersports on Loch Morlich and Loch Insh during the warmer weather, and salmon fishing in the Spey and its tributaries.

Strathspey is a country of heather hills and rushing mountain streams that strikes an instant chord with lovers of whisky the world over.
The villages and small towns along the A9 which follows the Spey valley, offer a range of accommodation and activities for visitors. Nearby Loch Morlich is famous for sailing and its outdoor centre, while the surrounding mountains offer superb walking and climbing.
This area is very popular with wildlife lovers as the woodland habitat in the valleys and heather-clad foothills are ideal for rare species such as the pine marten, wildcat, red squirrel, osprey, capercaillie, red and black grouse and crossbill. The higher slopes offer an opportunity to view golden eagles, peregrine falcons, ptarmigan, snow bunting, dotterel and reindeer.

After returning home early from our stay, I asked Unique Cottages how I could leave a review. They told me I could only leave a review when I received a link from Feefo. I never received a link. I asked them again and was told that I must have unsubscribed to receiving emails from Feefo. I knew I hadn't as I'd never heard of Feefo before, so I wasn't able to leave a review. I later booked with Unique Cottages at a different property and after a few days received a link to leave a review. Unique cottages knew I left the first property early and as such I believe they did not pass my details through to Feefo to leave a review because they knew it wouldn't have been favourable. This is under handed. | |

The cottage we rented from was absolutely unique. It was beautiful. The location was magnificent. The walks from the door and in the immediate area ranged from easy to arduous, but always with stunning views. The cottage was very well-provisioned. But the best was the care, kindness and attention we received from the owner and her family. | |
