The house has been refurbished to a very high standard throughout, with a Highland theme running all the way through. The cosy sitting room has a statement wood-burning stove at its heart set in a stylish fireplace that houses a fine selection of complimentary whisky. Its comfortable seating is positioned perfectly to take advantage of the large picture windows that showcase the amazing views, making the ideal place to curl up and enjoy the ever-changing seascape.
In the well-equipped, contemporary kitchen there are smart, built-in appliances with a charming dining area alongside. It is supplemented by a handy utility room that houses the laundry facilities.
The double bedroom is dressed in soothing tones with a king-size bed and a modern en suite shower room with a luxurious walk-in shower cleverly hidden away behind a sliding door. The light and bright twin bedroom also has an en suite shower room and even more sea views. The house also has the added bonus of a large, wooden walk-in sauna to relax in.
Outside, there is parking in the gravelled area by the house. Crannag is the sister property of Crann Tara and sits in 10 acres of rough grounds that tail off into the surrounding fields.
Being right by the coast there are lots of beautiful beaches nearby, in particular the picturesque sandy beach at Coldbackie Bay that is just half a mile away.
There is fishing available in some of the nearby lochs and the village of Tongue (1.5 miles) has a shop, PO, bank and petrol station, as well as two hotel restaurants that are ideal if you fancy a break from cooking. It is worth stocking up on supplies before you arrive, as the nearest supermarkets are at Thurso (42 miles) or Golspie (57 miles).
The North Coast 500 that has been labelled by some as ‘Scotland’s Route 66’ passes right by the house. This circular driving route is 516 miles long in total with some enthusiasts driving the entire route, while others choose to take in the amazing scenery on the shorter stretches nearby.
The very tip of Scotland John O' Groats (60 miles) is about an hour and a half’s drive away. It is known as the start/finish point for ‘End to End’ cycling and walking challenges and, of course, for its famous ‘Journeys End’ signpost.
A lovely walk leads from the village along the coast to Duncansby Head, where you can admire the huge sea stacks out in the waters and look out for the seabirds that shelter on the cliffs. There is also an RSPB reserve at Dunnet Head (54 miles) on the way to John O’ Groats that has many more seabirds, including puffins, razorbills, kittiwakes, shags, etc.
