Situated along one of the UK's most scenic routes—the North Coast 500’s Drumbeg Loop—Bruach Bothy is just a mile from the hamlet of Drumbeg, 14 miles from the lively fishing village of Lochinver, and 96 gloriously breathtaking miles from Inverness.
A gravel drive with generous parking leads to this contemporary property, thoughtfully designed to maximise its stunning location. The covered, granite-tiled patio at the front, the expansive wall of glass in the living area, and strategically placed windows throughout ensure guests remain immersed in Assynt’s spectacular natural landscape, inside and out.
Glass double doors open into the bothy’s open-plan living space, showcasing panoramic views across Loch Nedd, out to Eddrachillis Bay, the distant islands of Badcall and Handa, and the magnificent peaks of Quinag. Cosy seating beside an efficient wood-burning stove provides the perfect spot to relax, admire the views, and soak up the tranquility.
The living area includes a fully fitted, well-equipped kitchen featuring a large fridge-freezer, electric hob, oven, and dishwasher, alongside a dining table with two chairs—perfect for meals or planning the next day's adventures. A utility room houses a washing machine, coffee machine, microwave, and ample storage and drying space.
Unlike most traditional bothies, Bruach features a separate, inviting bedroom with two windows overlooking Loch Nedd, a king-size bed, ample storage, a hanging rail, and a Smart TV. Another modern upgrade from traditional bothies is the stylish shower room with a spacious walk-in shower cubicle.
Bruach’s outdoor space includes the covered patio and an open strip of steep grassland running between the bothy and the North Coast 500. Due to community grazing practices in this area, dogs are not permitted; however, this offers opportunities for encounters with local sheep or Highland cows wandering nearby.
With stunning sunrises, breathtaking sunsets, dark skies that sometimes showcase the Northern Lights, and regular wildlife sightings including red deer, sea eagles, buzzards, pine martens, badgers, and seals, Bruach Bothy provides an unforgettable, secluded retreat for two.
Bruach Bothy is located just a mile from the tiny crofting township of Drumbeg, scattered along the banks of beautiful Loch Nedd in Assynt — one of the UK's most remote areas. Here, people are few and far between, but wildlife such as otters, pine martens, red deer, sea eagles, golden eagles, whales and dolphins frequently appear.
Despite its remote charm, Bruach Bothy is conveniently close to amenities. Drumbeg boasts an award-winning, independent grocer — Drumbeg Stores — stocked with delicious, locally sourced produce available in-store or delivered to Bruach.
Just 14 miles away, Lochinver offers a good selection of shops and eateries, from hotels and restaurants to cafés. Enjoy dining al fresco on the banks of the River Inver with a famous pie from Lochinver Larder. Further south, Ullapool (36 miles), recently named ‘the coolest place in Scotland’, features fresh seafood at The Seafood Shack, an excellent book selection at The Ceilidh Place, the fascinating ironmongers by the harbour, and relaxed drinks at The Arch Inn while watching ferries journey to the Western Isles.
Kylesku, seven miles in the opposite direction, benefits from its remarkable location at the meeting point of Loch Glencoul, Loch Glendubh, and Loch a' Chàirn Bhàin. The Kylesku Hotel restaurant specialises in shellfish fresh from the loch, local fish, and meats from nearby crofts. North West Sea Tours offers boat trips, giving visitors opportunities to spot seals, seabirds, puffins, and the UK's highest waterfall, Eas a’Chual.
With a sheltered sea loch at its doorstep, Bruach Bothy is perfectly situated for swimming, paddleboarding, or kayaking, and serves as an excellent base for exploring Assynt’s rugged landscape. Climbers and hillwalkers can tackle Quinag, Suilven, or Stac Pollaidh, while mountain bikers can explore several highly-rated trails, including the challenging 40-mile Suilven MTB Loop starting and finishing in Lochinver. Kayaking enthusiasts can book guided trips with Summer Isles Sea Kayaking to paddle around the beautiful Summer Isles.
Assynt’s beaches are breathtaking, featuring white sands, clear turquoise waters, and rugged sheltering rocks, with Achmelvich and Clachtoll particularly recommended. When exploring the coastline, don’t miss Stoer Lighthouse, a prime spot to observe dolphins and whales.
At day's end, retreat to the tranquillity and luxurious comfort of Bruach Bothy to watch the sun set over Loch Nedd, the yachts gently anchored in its sheltered waters, and Quinag gradually disappearing into the evening darkness.
