Scotland is well known for its beautiful countryside and its abundance of wildlife and there are few better places for a couple to experience what's on offer than by staying at Marl Moss Cottage on the Whitmuir Estate.
This traditional Scottish steading has been imaginatively converted into three properties (the smallest of which is Marl Moss Cottage) which share a quiet courtyard well away from busy roads and exposes you to a much more peaceful, relaxed pace of life.
Considering this beautifully renovated cottage only sleeps two, it is far more spacious than you would expect and feels light and airy throughout! The cottage is kept warm and cosy by the underfloor heating, which can be complemented by the open fire for cuddling up in front of at night. With extensive floor and worktop space in the kitchen you could cook for an army if you wished, but I doubt you'll want to when this is the ideal place for just the two of you to escape to!
Let's not forget the romantic touches which make Marl Moss that wee bit special - the fabulous four poster super-king size bed, the table for two with views across the road to Whitmuir Loch and the secluded little seating area just a few hundred yards away in the woods. This is exclusively yours for the length of your stay and offers amazing views across the Borders countryside.
Video Walkthrough
When it comes to the beautiful Borders countryside, Whitmuir Estate is right in the midst of some of the best. What's more, with the Estate owners' commitment to conservation, those who choose to explore the surrounding lands will find ponds, wooded areas, hedgerows and fields which have been specifically set aside for native fauna and flora to thrive.
Walkers are well catered for here with the Southern Upland and St Cuthbert's Way walking routes both passing nearby. It is also a good area for exploring by bike with its quiet roads and countryside paths.
Wild flowers flourish and butterflies, ladybirds and various other animals are in their element, as no doubt you will be when staying in Marl Moss.
The charming Whitmuir Loch which you can see from the sitting room of the cottage was where peat was dug from over 300 years ago to heat the nearby town of Selkirk (all facilities) and carried the 4 miles from the estate by horse and cart. These days it will take you only a few minutes by car to get to the pretty market town in the middle of the Borders, within easy reach of the other Borders towns such as Melrose, Peebles, Galashiels (cinema, 24 hour supermarket) and Jedburgh, each with its own unique character and history.
If you fancy a day trip to discover Scotland's capital, Edinburgh is just an hour's drive away or 50 minutes by train from Galashiels (8.5 miles). This is all if you can bring yourself to leave this pretty little cottage and the impressive estate on which it is situated where there is so much nature to see!
