The main living area is spacious and double height with windows on two sides and one wall made entirely of glass to showcase the river views. There is comfortable seating around an electric flame effect stove at one end and a dining area at the other, with large French doors that open out onto a charming balcony (with furniture) that looks directly out over the river.
The neat kitchen is equipped with everything you need and there is a utility cupboard that houses the laundry facilities.
There is a pretty double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a neat single bedroom downstairs that share a shower room. Upstairs the master en suite double bedroom is light and bright due to its glass gable wall that looks out over the living area to the river beyond.
There is plenty of parking in the gravelled area right by the door and the garden is enclosed with a delightful rockery and a grassed garden that slopes down towards the river (care to be taken).
A short walk away is the Kalemouth Suspension Bridge that has a lovely view right down the river. Heading towards Kelso the prestigious Roxburghe Golf Course (3 miles) offers fishing and clay pigeon shooting as well as a championship 18-hole golf course.
Kelso (4.5 miles) itself is a picturesque market town that centres round an attractive cobbled square, with a couple of supermarkets, lots of little independent shops and plenty of cafés, pubs and restaurants.
Floors Castle, Scotland’s largest inhabited castle, just outside Kelso is currently home to the Duke of Roxburghe and his family. You can tour round the castle itself or just stop to visit its café and plant nursery.
In the other direction is Jedburgh (6.5 miles) that is dominated by its ancient Abbey that sits high above the Jed Water and there are also plenty of shops and a supermarket. The town is home to Mary Queen of Scots House that is full of interesting information on the former monarch and on the outskirts of the town is a golf course.
On the way into Jedburgh the Caddy Mann restaurant (4 miles) serves excellent meals and has a Golf Driving Range alongside if you fancy practising your swing.
A day trip up to the bustling capital of Edinburgh is easily achievable. It takes under an hour on the train from Tweedbank (17 miles) or Galashiels (19.5 miles) and once there you have all the shops, galleries, museums, pubs and restaurants you could wish for. History enthusiasts will enjoy visiting the towering Scott monument, impressive Edinburgh Castle and the Queen’s official Scottish residence Holyrood Palace.
