Church Cottage is a delightful, detached house set in pretty gardens that lead right down to the shore of beautiful Loch Awe, on the edge of Portsonachan near Dalmally (9.5 miles) in Argyll.

Inside, seating has been set up around the wood-burning stove in the inviting sitting room that also has a neat dining area set up perfectly for four people to enjoy meals together. The kitchen is very light and bright with a door out to the garden that is a stable door so the top can be opened up in nice weather to let the sun stream in.
All on the one level are an airy double bedroom and a neat twin bedroom that share a thoroughly modern shower room with a lovely waterfall shower head.
Around 2 acres of lush wild cottage garden grounds surround the cottage with lots of mature plants and trees that give a nice private, secluded feeling. A variety of birds and wildlife visit the garden and a path leads down to your own section of loch frontage from which you can fish or launch a canoe or kayak. There is also a mooring available by arrangement.
Just a couple of minutes’ walk away is Loch Awe Boats that hire out kayaks, row boats or motor boats for fishing trips or simply exploring the loch whilst keeping an eye out for ospreys, eagles and otters along the way.
There is a choice of 2 different eateries in easy walking distance of the cottage. Ardbrecknish House is less than half a mile away where they serve bar meals (March to October) and in the other direction the Portsonachan Hotel (1 mile) has an excellent a la carte dining menu.
Dalmally (9.5 miles) has a village shop for supplies, a beautiful parkland 9 hole golf course and a train station from which you can hop on the train and be over in Oban in under an hour.
Just outside Dalmally it is worth stopping off to visit Kilchurn Castle. It is about a 10 minute marshy walk from the car park over to the island that the castle sits on with great elevated views of the loch to be admired from its tower. It is great fun to explore the ruin whilst imagining what it would have been like back in its heyday when it was an important local stronghold.
A bit further on from Dalmally and hidden deep within the towering Ben Cruachan mountain is the Cruachan Power Station (13 miles). What may seem like rather an unlikely visitor attraction is actually quite fascinating with exhibitions that explain its history and guided tours that take you right into the heart of the hollow mountain. From the visitor centre a walk leads up to the Cruachan Dam where there are stunning views - you can even walk right over the dam itself.
Oban is a hub for ferry journeys so day trips over to visit some of the Inner Hebridean islands such as Mull, Iona, Coll or Tiree are perfectly possible.
Head south down to Inveraray (11.5 miles) on Loch Fyne that is a very pretty town with lots of interesting shops to wander around. It is also a particularly good place to pick up some whisky at Loch Fyne Whiskies where there is a huge selection to choose from. Argyll Adventure (13.5 miles) offers a range of outdoor activities including horse riding, paintball and crossbow shooting.
