Gariob Beag is an old stone threshing-barn which has been excellently converted and comfortably furnished to make a truly delightful holiday cottage, which you will hate to leave at the end of your stay.

About 7 miles west of Lochgilphead in Argyll, it stands detached on a hillock, in its own spacious garden (which features the now grassy mound of the old horse-gang where horses circled continuously to grind corn in the olden days). It graces an area already known for its outstanding natural beauty and is not far from Crinan (4 miles) and Tayvallich (6 miles), with views of the outstandingly lovely West Coast countryside which borders Loch Sween.
When they converted the building to a holiday cottage, the owners made the decision to keep it just for two people, with the result that it has become a beautifully spacious property. As soon as you walk in, you find yourself in a broad tiled hallway, with a feature sewing machine and loads of room for coats and boots, etc.
The sense of light and space continues in the open plan living area that is quite lovely, bright and sunny with patio doors to the front taking up most of one wall and a French door out to the side garden. With inviting sofas, an open fire with feature brick chimney piece and a neat dining area it is a most welcoming and comfortable room. Through an arch, the kitchen is beautifully fitted and equipped and also has lots of room.
All on one level, the bedroom is another well-proportioned room that is charmingly furnished with a wonderfully inviting Victorian bed. A bathroom with bath and shower over completes the accommodation.
Outside is a gravelled parking area and a pretty grassed garden area (with furniture and BBQ).
Visitors to the cottage comment on the peace and quiet and it is a paradise for nature-lovers who can walk, bike or drive the many small roads and paths that wind through the sometimes forested, sometimes rocky hills towering above the stunning coastline.
Historic Scotland cares for all the ruined castles, chapels, ancient crosses and standing-stones dating from pre-historic times, which are a fascination for historians of all ages.
Birdwatchers will spot ospreys and even golden eagles, patrolling the skies and enjoy the cheeky bullfinches and many other small birds who swoop on the fruit trees in the owners' nearby garden. There is horse-riding, golf, several good restaurants and superb white sands within a fifteen mile radius.
Lochgilphead is the nearest town with all facilities, swimming pool and golf course and to the south there is all the lovely Mull of Kintyre to explore.
On the way to Lochgilphead you will drive for a distance along the Crinan Canal that has been described as Scotland’s most beautiful short cut. It is well worth taking an afternoon to walk or cycle along the side of the canal watching the boats pass through the locks on their way to the Atlantic. The fact that there are hostelries for refreshment at Cairnbaan and Crinan is no bad thing either!
