Overview

At the heart of it all is the main living area that is elegant and open plan with a fully-equipped kitchen and a seating area by the wood-burning stove where two sets of French doors frame the delightful loch views. From there a large deck wraps around the house with infinity glass balustrades that allow the water to be fully appreciated. Underfloor heating provides a warm welcome throughout the ground floor.

A huge dining table accommodates all meals and there is also a breakfast bar with wine cooling fridges, etc. The attractive twin bedroom downstairs makes use of a bathroom with both a bath and separate shower and there is a larder, office and utility room with washing facilities all on this level.

Upstairs the spacious landing has a TV area and well stocked library for those wishing to sit quietly with a good book. The master bedroom is the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the house with its super king-size bed and luxurious en suite shower room, not to mention the enormous windows that show off the gorgeous view of the loch. If all that wasn’t enough it also has its own wood-burning stove and a sumptuous rolltop bath set on a raised plinth for relaxing soaks whilst taking in the wonderful scenery.

The beautiful shoreline makes an absolutely idyllic spot for an intimate wedding and all of the local contacts needed to arrange this can be made available through the owner.

Map & Local

Canoes, kayaks and paddleboards are available by arrangement for guests to enjoy watersports out on the loch. Loch Awe is known as a great place for fishing with some of the wild brown trout that were caught in it actually turning out to be UK record breakers!

There are a few choices of places to head to for a meal nearby. The Kilchrenan Inn (2.5 miles) has a good menu with plenty of local seafood and the Taycregghan Hotel in Taynuilt (3.5 miles) has a lovely restaurant as well as informal lunches and bar meals. Taynuilt also has a few shops and a pretty, 9 hole golf course.

At the Cruachan Visitor Centre (14 miles) the impressive mountain has been hollowed out to create a hydroelectric power station deep within the rock. Tours run around the various tunnels with experienced guides that offer an insight into the station’s interesting construction.

Hill climbers will find plenty to keep them occupied as there are several munros and corbetts to tackle within an hour’s drive. Ben Cruachan itself is just one of the peaks that can be attempted and, as it is the highest point in Argyll and Bute, the panorama that can be admired from the summit is truly breathtaking.

A bit further on, sitting on a rocky peninsula at the head of Loch Awe, are the ruins of Kilchurn Castle. This 15th century castle is open to the public (from April to September) to wander around with information boards dotted around that explain all about its long, fascinating history.

A bit further afield at Benderloch (19 miles) the superb sandy beach in Tralee Bay is a lovely place to while away a sunny afternoon. Oban (21 miles) is a central hub for all sorts of ferry trips out to the farther-flung islands such as Rum and Eigg or Islay and Jura.
