Overview

Guests will enjoy the open plan arrangement of this spacious and contemporary haven where the soothing sounds of the sea make for a very pleasant start to each day. Distinct areas for cooking, dining and relaxation have been set out against the amazing backdrop of the shoreline, with a wood-burning stove that delivers a very warm welcome. Huge glass doors showcase the gorgeous seascape spread out before the house so it is easy to while away time sitting drinking in the ever-changing vista while waves lap gently against the shore.

It is pretty hard to tear oneself away from the scenery outside and luckily there is no need to as it can even be admired from the comfort of bed in the light and airy master bedroom. Plenty of storage space is provided and the modern en suite bathroom is the icing on the cake with a walk-in shower and free-standing bath tub that just begs to be luxuriated in.

Towards the back of the house the bright twin room has its own doors leading outside and a contemporary shower room just adjacent, making the accommodation ideal for families.

Seating in the entrance hall allows boots to easily be pulled on for walks - off it is a sunny little utility area that houses the washing machine and a WC. Bikes can be shut away in the garage and rough grassland grounds surround the house with the coastline itself accessed just a short walk away.

Map & Local

Much though they may sound like they are separate, Lewis and Harris are part of the same island with Lewis to the north and Harris to the south. Part of the group of islands referred to as the western isles due to their position, they are revered for their unspoilt beauty, spectacular beaches and relaxed pace of life.

The nearest of these beaches is at Reef (1 mile) where breathtaking white sands frame the beautiful sparkling blue waters, almost reminiscent of those in the Caribbean. The well-stocked Uig Community Shop in Timsgarry (4 miles) comes in handy and is also the place to top up on petrol before heading out exploring.

From Miavaig harbour (2 miles) less than 10 minutes’ drive way it is possible to jump on a wildlife spotting boat trip to see seals and sea eagles, or even try out some sea fishing.

One of Lewis’ most iconic sights are the Callanish Standing Stones (20 miles), a group of impressive Neolithic stones that really have to be seen to be believed. Head to the main settlement Stornoway (33 miles) for further shopping and at Sandwick just outside Stornoway there is the chance to try out various watersports including surfing, snorkelling and paddle boarding.

Harris is home to the famous Harris Tweed that has been handwoven on the island for centuries and at one point was actually used as currency by the islanders. It is renowned for its impeccable quality that many have tried and failed to replicate over the years and a stop off at one of the shops is an absolute must to pick up a memento that will last for years.

Fascinating boat trips head out from Leverburgh on Harris (75 miles) over to the little archipelago of islands and sea stacks known as St Kilda. They have been recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site as they are an important habitat for vast numbers of seabirds including huge colonies of puffins, fulmars and gannets that are an incredible sight to see.

Please note: while we make every effort to be as accurate as possible, the actual position of the cottage indicated on the map above and the proximity of the amenities in the Local Info section cannot be guaranteed to be precise and should be used as a guide only.
