This wholly enchanting little cottage is a few miles from Kilchoan on the Ardnamurchan peninsula on the way to the lighthouse, which is the westernmost point of mainland Britain.

Doors open to the garden from the open-plan living area, which is bright, spacious and comfortable, with a solid fuel stove. The living area is L-shaped with a beamed and panelled ceiling throughout. The clever placing of the central stove means that it cosies the whole house, even the upstairs bedroom through which the flue passes.
The layout is practical too, with the well-fitted and equipped galley style kitchen at one end and the dining area right beside it, with easily kept tiled flooring throughout. The bathroom has a shower and electric underfloor heating making for a very comfortable experience.
The spiral staircase is open tread, though as the house is just for two this is unlikely to cause any problems. The double bedroom with its coombed ceiling is light, airy and very spacious. Having both gable end and Velux windows, it is a very bright room and the day’s weather can be ascertained without even getting out of bed!
Behind the cottage (the name means Sirius, the Dog Star) is a beautifully designed garden with a decked seating area overlooking a water cascade, with fine views of the surrounding hills. With only two other houses close by it is remarkably private.
Ardnamurchan offers a real escapists' heaven, with superb walking, cycling on the quiet roads and an abundance of wildlife.
At the RSPB reserve back along the coast at Glenborrodale you may see golden and white-tailed eagles, merlins and redstarts, to name but some. There is an idyllic white beach just half a mile or so from the cottage at Portuairk, only one of several in the area where turquoise waters, warmed by the gulfstream, lap silver sands.
The journey into this spectacular landscape, formed by volcanic activity about 60 million years ago, is a highly scenic one and the peace and beauty you will find here make it eminently worthwhile.
Even at the end of it, you are not too remote, and nearby Kilchoan is a lively community with a hotel, shop and community centre. A car ferry operates from there across to Tobermory on Mull, so you can even do a bit of island hopping if the mood takes you.
