For couples looking for a comfortable and relaxing ‘break away from it all’ this is a great secluded little hideaway. The main living accommodation is tastefully decorated throughout and is open plan so that everything is easily to hand. It is kept cosy by a coal fire and there is the choice of a romantic dining area and also a breakfasting area in the kitchen that has nice views out over the garden.
Everything is laid out on the one level with a light and bright double bedroom and a neat bathroom to enjoy a soak in. With no TV, telephone or WiFi in the croft it is the ideal place to have a welcome break from technology.
Outside, the garden is a haven for wildlife and, in particular, lots of birds like to visit the feeders that are dotted around. Al fresco dining can be enjoyed at the picnic table and the garden trails off into meadowland that is full of wildflowers and daffodils that bring a riot of colour when they bloom in the spring.
Parking for two cars is to the side of the croft which is surrounded by lovely oak, birch and rowan woodland and pretty fields of buttercups.
In the nearby hamlet of Glenuig there is an excellent smokehouse with a deli offering lots of delicious local specialities such as smoked salmon, cheeses and other smoked meats.
The Glenuig Inn is a good place to stop for lunch or dinner and they also run sea kayaking trips and lessons for those who fancy taking to the water. Glenuig has a small community shop and a Community Hall that has a programme of events and live music throughout the year.
Follow the Road to the Isles across to Arisaig (19 miles) where a foot ferry runs over to the ‘small isles’ of Eigg, Rum and Muck for picturesque walks, beautiful beaches and dolphins, minke whales and even basking sharks to look out for on the way over.
Arisaig has a very picturesque 9 hole golf course (the most westerly in the UK) that has amazing coastal views to take in whilst playing. The sandy Samalaman beach (1.5 miles) is worth a visit and there are further sandy beaches to enjoy at Arisaig and Sanna.
The ruined Castle Tioram (10 miles) sits out on an island in Loch Moidart. Due to its condition the castle is not open to the public but good views of it can be had from the sandy tidal causeway that leads out to it.
It is worth filling up with petrol and stocking up on provisions at the supermarkets in Fort William (37 miles) before the hour’s drive out to the croft. The town also has a huge range of shops selling everything from inventive gifts and jewellery to traditional wool and tweed goods.
