The cottage’s setting and unimpeded view of the loch can be fully appreciated from the comfort of the sofa in the sitting room and the scene outside is everchanging as Loch Ewe is a tidal sea loch. A wood-burning stove keeps everything nice and toasty throughout and at the heart of the spacious kitchen is a large range cooker that is a delight to cook on. The kitchen is supplemented by a handy utility room.
In the dining room a lovely open fire crackles away creating an inviting ambience for lingering over meals together or trying to spot wildlife on the shoreline. A single bedroom has been laid out downstairs, along with a shower room with a large, walk-in shower.
The other attractive bedrooms are upstairs with two double bedrooms (one king-size) and a neat single room that make use of a colourful, contemporary family bathroom. Each of the double rooms has a handy wash basin and dormer windows that further showcase the loch.
Adults, children and dogs alike will love the large grassed garden that surrounds the house. It extends to roughly an acre with an enclosed area to the side where a picnic table has been positioned in a prime spot looking out over the loch. What could be better than dining outside with that amazing vista spread out before you? As the back garden is elevated the view from the top of the garden in particular is amazing.
Wildlife abounds all around with otters playing on the loch shore, seals out in the bay and red deer on the croft behind the house. There are a variety of sea birds to look out for and a lucky few might even see impressive white-tailed sea eagles soaring overhead. Canoeing and kayaking can be arranged through a local guide company, Ewe Canoe.
Aultbea has a village shop in easy walking distance with all the usual groceries as well as fresh prawns and langoustines in season. There are some craft shops and a café as well so it is very well catered for considering it is a small village. Grocery deliveries can also be arranged from one of the bigger supermarkets.
There are lovely forest walks to be had in the nearby Laide Wood (2 miles) where there are two lochans to walk around and a pretty waterfall to admire. Lazy days can be spent on the wide sandy beach at Mellon Charles (3 miles) paddling, beachcombing or simply enjoying the peace and quiet.
The hotel restaurant in Poolewe (6.5 miles) is a good place to head to for a meal or a drink. Just outside Poolewe the beautiful Inverewe Gardens are home to some stunning species of plants and flowers that are able to thrive due to the warming effects of the gulf stream. Boat trips run out from the jetty at the gardens for a closer look at the local wildlife from the water.
Another gorgeous sandy beach just begs to be explored at Gairloch (12.5 miles) and there is also an excellent 9 hole golf course set right amongst the dunes by the beach with great scenery to take in during a round or two.
