Its delightful, elevated position offers a bird’s-eye vista across the loch to the mountains on the other side, making it a very romantic setting for a relaxing break. The main living accommodation is smart and open plan with huge, full-length windows that ensure the views that can be admired equally well from the seating, dining and kitchen areas are the star of the show.
It is entertaining to watch the ever-changing scene outside without even having to move from the comfy sofa, as boats bob in the water and dolphins and seals can often be seen. The charming deck on the loch side of the house is just the place to fully immerse oneself in the amazing surroundings whilst wildlife spotting. There is a drop beyond the decking so care should be taken.
Aird Sleimhe has been thoughtfully dressed with great attention to detail and the underfloor heating keeps it toasty and adds an extra touch of luxury. The spacious and bright double bedroom is particularly stylish with a handy dressing table and a modern bathroom with a bath, large walk-in shower and double sinks.
There is a level parking area with decking that wraps round the house leading to the roller front door that slides cleverly up and down at the touch of a button.
With the boats on Loch Harport providing so much amusement from the house, getting out on the water is sure to be high on most guests’ agendas. There are two boat trip providers just down the road - Sea Skye Tours who run sightseeing and wildlife boat trips and Wild Skye Boat Trips who offer the chance to see and even feed white-tailed eagles whilst aboard!
The Old Inn in Carbost is just a short stroll away so it is ideally located to wander along to for a drink or evening meal. Also in easy walking distance is The Oyster Shed where the takeaway seafood on offer really couldn’t get much fresher.
Anyone on the whisky trail will want to head to the famous Talisker Distillery (0.5 miles) that was built back in 1831 and is the oldest working distillery on Skye. Knowledgeable guides lead their fascinating tours and the huge copper stills that are used in the distillation process are really quite impressive. The bar in the visitor centre allows a dram to be sampled afterwards.
The pretty beach at Talisker Bay (5 miles) is a lovely place to spend some time paddling or beachcombing. Walkers and climbers will want to tackle the Cuillin mountains that dominate the surrounding landscape, or at least visit the stunning Fairy Pools at their base. Some of the peaks are classified as munros at over 3,000 feet high giving ‘baggers’ plenty of opportunities to add to their tallies.
It is less than half an hour’s drive to the largest settlement on the island, picturesque Portree (18 miles). The town is familiar to many with the string of colourful houses that line its harbour making for plenty of good photo opportunities.
