The area around St Andrews is one of Scotland's most popular holiday destinations, with so much to offer visitors. Right at the heart of the village, this substantial 18th century listed building was, as its name suggests, once home to the village school master. It overlooks the local parish church with its impressive sandstone tower and is just a few minutes’ walk from a pub/restaurant.
Inside the house is light and airy, yet welcoming and comfortable, having been modernised to a high standard whilst maintaining many of its charming original features. It now provides lucky holiday makers with accommodation which is comfortable, versatile and suitable for guests of all ages.
Off the spacious entrance hall is the bright and tranquil sitting room, its marble fireplace beautifully framing the wood-burning stove which keeps it cosy even on the coolest of evenings. The good sized dining kitchen, with its range cooker and Belfast sink, offers the ideal setting for family dining and there is a handy additional utility room.
Downstairs too are a double bedroom with French doors to the secluded walled garden area to the rear of the house (with furniture), and a generous shower room (double sink and double shower). The other three tastefully decorated bedrooms can be found upstairs, along with a further shower room.
There is a children's play park a couple of minutes' walk away and the short walk from the house down to the local sandy beach leads you past Kingsbarns Golf Links where visitors are welcome.
Just over a mile outside the village is Kingsbarns Distillery, where you can take a tour and find out all about the distillation process. You can also sample a ‘wee dram’ yourself or take buy some to take home with you.
Beyond the village the rest of the picturesque Fife coast with its vast variety of attractions and facilities awaits you. If the many world famous golf courses and 117 miles that make up the Fife Coastal Path aren't for you, then perhaps you will relish the unique atmosphere and the sense of history that radiates from the ruins of the cathedral and castle of St Andrews or the ancient university itself.
The seemingly endless West Sands, immortalised in the opening sequence of the film 'Chariots of Fire' are great for walking and a family day at the seaside. The more energetic and adventurous will be interested to know that the coast around Kingsbarns offers what is referred to by those in the know as 'challenging surfing'.
