At the end of a short drive and with a lovely open aspect to the front over a grassy quadrangle, the cottage has been converted with great sympathy and imagination from what was an old stable block. It now offers bright and airy holiday accommodation, combined with a real 'roses round the door' appearance.
Immediately on entering it is obvious that the cottage has a most pleasant welcoming atmosphere. The attractive living area is open plan with a cosy wood-burning stove at its heart, making it a great place for everyone to gather together, whether to cook, eat or just relax. There is also a generous dining area and a very well-equipped kitchen area and beautiful light oak floors throughout.
There can be no doubt which is the master bedroom! It is incredibly spacious with a king-size bed to stretch out on and a walnut davenport in the corner as a final elegant touch.
The twin bedroom is charmingly decorated in a jaunty blue which makes one think irresistibly of the seaside, which is not so far away and the bathroom is conveniently sited between the two bedrooms.
Parking is right at the door and guests have the use of the lawned area in front of the cottage.
This area has so much to offer visitors that it is difficult to know where to begin but a visit to the beach at Elie (3 miles) is always a good starting point.
A wander along the beach is enjoyable whatever the weather from a bracing walk that blows the cobwebs away to a tranquil stroll in the sunshine. There are also watersports to try out if you fancy taking to the water.
From Elie's headland a path leads out past the pretty lighthouse and continues on to Lady Janet Anstruther’s Tower that was used as a changing room for the Lady’s sea bathing.
A major attraction of the area is the fact that St Andrews, with its three different beaches, historic university, ruined castle, cathedral and legendary golf courses, is only 10 miles away.
There are lots of other golf courses nearby as well as beautiful coastal walks and an adventure playground, miniature railway, boating and crazy golf at Craigtoun Country Park (10 miles). There are also a number of excellent restaurants in easy reach.
Inland, the likes of Kellie Castle with its wonderful gardens, Lorimer's Hill of Tarvit, Mary Queen of Scots' fairytale palace at Falkland and even Scotland's Secret Bunker near Anstruther, will all prove irresistible to those interested in history.
Those who wish to range further afield will find good road connections to Perth (36 miles) to the north, while a day trip to Edinburgh, either by car (42 miles) or by train from Markinch (11 miles) is perfectly feasible.
