The cottage was built in 1903 and was the former wash house to Lagarie House, hence the large central chimney. The current owner has sympathetically extended this character cottage to what is now double its original size. The large sitting room has plenty of comfortable seating and a wood burning stove in a traditional brick fireplace to keep it cosy. The French doors flood the room with light and lead through to a conservatory that also provides access to a pretty patio area.
Off the sitting room is a bright double bedroom with French doors out to the seating area in the garden and a handy utility room that leads through to a shower room with a walk-in shower and WC.
The kitchen is modern and well equipped with built-in appliances and there is a large separate, dining room with an open fire. The cosy play room gives children a place to themselves and off it is a twin bedroom with views out across the garden. The modern, tiled family bathroom has a bath and shower over.
A spiral staircase leads up to another seating area with a TV, so there is plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Off this are two double bedrooms, the first of which is light and airy with an incredibly spacious en suite bathroom with an indulgent corner bath. The other double room is cheerful and spacious and you can even see the sea from its large picture window.
Outside there is parking for up to three cars in the private drive, a small grassed area to the front and an enclosed garden tucked away behind the cottage.
A short stroll brings you to the quaint village of Rhu with its marina and moorings along with a post office, a village shop and a pub (The Rhu Inn). There is also a hotel restaurant just at the end of the road which has wonderful views out over the rocky shores of the Gare Loch.
Just 2 miles away is the seaside town of Helensburgh, named after the town’s founder’s wife, where there are supermarkets, a golf course and swimming pool, as well as an inviting promenade from which to sit and admire the wonderful sea views. There are also many excellent restaurants and cafes within the town centre.
Upper Helensburgh is home to Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s famous Hill House that he was commissioned to design for Glasgow publisher Walter Blackie and his family back in the early 1900s. Now managed by the National Trust, it is open to the public and even has its own little tea room. Mackintosh’s work has been preserved and restored exquisitely and his instantly recognisable motifs are prominent throughout the entire décor of the house and in the beautiful sculptures in the gardens.
Loch Lomond (7 miles) is right in the heart of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park that covers over 720 square miles of lochs, rivers, mountains and rolling countryside. It is a popular hub for a range of water sports including canoeing, sailing and wind surfing and is also ideal for walking, cycling, horse riding and wildlife watching. There is even a water bus that runs across the loch to help people explore it more easily. There are two world renowned golf courses close to Helensburgh on the banks of Loch Lomond.
Just over 35 minutes by train (or 45 minutes by car) is the bustling cultural hub of Glasgow (26 miles) with a plethora of galleries, museums and theatre shows. It also has all the shops you could wish for and is a transport hub for the whole of the rest of the UK and Ireland, giving easy access by rail and by air, via its international airports.
