The Walled Garden, as its name suggests, sits in a peaceful location in 2.5 acres of wonderful walled gardens in the little hamlet of Garth just over a mile from the conservation village of Fortingall in the heart of Highland Perthshire.

Set in the sunny footprints where the former greenhouses for Garth House’s fruit and vegetable garden once sat, the house really brings the outdoors in and is warm and welcoming throughout.
At the centre of the house is a huge open plan living area with a feature stone wall, picture windows and large glass doors that flood the room with light. The nominated cook will be in their element as there is a huge Aga to whip up culinary delights on as well as the choice of an electric hob and oven and a long breakfast bar to sit at and keep them company.
Comfy sofas have been positioned around the wood-burning stove for cosying up and spending relaxed evenings in enjoying a film. Large French doors then lead out to an airy conservatory with underfloor heating, further seating from which to admire the beautiful garden from and a large dining area for lingering meals together.
There are four bedrooms in total, three spacious double rooms and a twin bedroom that make use of a very modern shower room and bathroom with bath and shower and there is also a useful drying cupboard and utility area in the hall.
The garden dates all the way back to 1835 with a wrought iron entrance gate that sets the scene to what feels like a ‘secret garden’. This fully enclosed space has an attractive seating area and steps that lead down to the rest of the garden that is perfect for children and pets to run and play in safely. There are great views of the surrounding hills and a very pretty apple tree avenue that provides tasty treats in season.
Plenty of parking is available right by the door for up to 4 cars which is handy for loading and unloading luggage.
Lovely walks can be had straight from the door with the scenic River Lyon just 15 minutes’ walk away (where salmon fishing is available) and the forests that make up the Tay Forest Park to wander round.
Just over a mile along the road charming Fortingall has a hotel with a fine restaurant and a dog friendly bar with an excellent informal menu, plenty of whiskies to sample and even live music on a Friday night. A visit to Fortingall is not complete without a visit to the famous Yew tree in the churchyard that is said to be around 5,000 years old!
Pick up some supplies in Aberfeldy (7 miles) where there is a supermarket, butchers, bakers, various other shops and a cinema with live broadcasts of theatre shows, ballet and musicals as well as the usual films. Stop off on the way to visit the impressive Castle Menzies or carry on past Aberfeldy to see the beautiful Birks of Aberfeldy waterfalls that were named after Robert Burns’ well-known poem.
Adventure seekers can try out a bungee jump from the permanent jump platform on Garry Bridge (20 miles) for a real adrenalin rush. Those looking for something more relaxing may prefer trying out some watersports or a nice boat trip out on Loch Tay from Kenmore (5 miles) with a knowledgeable local skipper who explains the area’s history and fascinating folklore.
Only half an hour away, the A9 allows for touring in both directions, heading south to the city of Perth or north to explore some of the Cairngorms National Park.
