Red Squirrel Lodge is a traditional wood cabin set amongst mature trees with a lovely outlook towards the surrounding mountains, near beautiful Loch Tay and the pretty village of Killin (8 miles).

Inside, the layout of the main living accommodation is open plan with comfy seating at one end and the cooking facilities at the other. Its large glass doors keep the room nice and bright and can be opened up to bring the country views inside. Everything is laid out all on the one level and is kept nice and cosy by underfloor heating.
The other rooms lie off the spacious hallway with a double bedroom and an attractive twin bedroom that has views out towards the hills. Storage is provided in the porch area for coats and boots, etc and a modern shower room with a walk-in shower completes the accommodation.
Seating is set up on the south-facing patio area outside which is ideal for admiring the view whilst enjoying a morning coffee or keeping an eye out for the resident red squirrels that inspired the lodge’s name. There is plenty of space for parking outside.
Larger parties of guests can book Red Squirrel Lodge and Red Kite Lodge together in order to enjoy a holiday together whilst still having some privacy and space. The lodges each have their own entrances and are set within 20 acres of private grounds with access to Loch Tay itself.
At the western head of Loch Tay in Killin (8 miles) the River Dochart drops down dramatically in the Falls of Dochart. The best view of these waterfalls is from the bridge and the Inn beside it is a good place to stop off for a meal or a drink after taking in the scenery.
A walking/cycle path leads from the falls and passes over the Dochart Viaduct from which there is a wonderful outlook across the surrounding countryside. The Kinnell Stone Circle, an interesting group of 6 prehistoric standing stones, can also be visited nearby.
Killin (8 miles) has a small shop for groceries or, for a larger supermarket, head into Aberfeldy (16 miles). The pretty 9 hole course at the Killin Golf Club is well worth trying for a round or two. The Outdoor Centre in the village hires out bikes, canoes or kayaks and for more extreme pursuits they also hire crampons, walking poles and ice axes.
The imposing Ben Lawers (20 miles) munro is the highest mountain in the Southern Highlands and gives its name to the National Park in which it stands. Another munro, Beinn Ghlas, is part of the Ben Lawers mountain range and they are often tackled together taking between 4 and 6 hours to get up and back.
Highland Safaris run boat cruises launching from Kenmore (10.5 miles) that are a great way of exploring the loch. The Scottish Crannog Centre’s reconstructed crannog is set out on the water with a fascinating museum alongside that houses locally discovered artefacts.
