Right down by the harbour you will find Seaspray Cottage, a beautifully converted, charming and completely self-contained holiday home for up to 4 people.
Seaspray offers gracious and spacious living on a scale that would usually be found in a house catering for a far greater number. The living room is most pleasingly presented, with solid wood flooring and comfortable and inviting corner seating that is perfect for snuggling up on after a day down on the beach. There is a dining area right beside the patio doors and the artwork on the walls ensures that you never forget you are at the seaside!
The kitchen is well-equipped and spacious, with somewhat of a mediterranean feel to it. There is also a handy additional dining area at the breakfast bar, ideal for relaxing with a drink in the evening and still being able to chat to the cook as they work. Also downstairs is the fully-tiled shower room that benefits from a very large shower.
Upstairs, up the open tread staircase (not suitable for those with limited mobility), is the enormous double bedroom that extends the full length of the house. It is an impressive room with its beamed ceiling, windows at either end and polished wood flooring. It has an additional sofa bed that effectively turns it into a family room and with so much space, comfortable seating and its own TV, it would also make a second sitting or play area.
Outside there is a small patio area (with furniture) and the house is only a few yards from the harbour itself, which is a lovely place to sit and admire the beautiful bay. There is car access to the door on the one road which leads from the top to the bottom of the village.
Gardenstown has a restaurant and a pub, while Banff and Macduff (8 miles) are on hand for shopping. The village also has an excellent sandy beach.
This is a great area for walking - along the Coastal Way or, inland, along the Speyside Way. The walk under the cliffs to the unique little village of Crovie is also well worth undertaking. River and sea fishing, golfing on several excellent links courses, seal, porpoise and even whale spotting are other enjoyable activities on offer here.
For wet days (though this is reputedly the sunniest part of the British Isles) there is the National Gallery at Duff House in Banff, and stately homes such as Haddo House, Leith Hall and Fyvie Castle to visit.
Gardenstown and Crovie are only two of the many picturesque fishing villages along this coast, all of which have their own particular character and are well worth exploring. All have pretty harbours and several, like Gardenstown, have fine sandy beaches. You are also not so far here from the Whisky Trail, where many distilleries offer tours and tastings to visitors. The ‘Granite City’ of Aberdeen is accessible in little over an hour, or, for something completely different, you could make an early morning excursion to the fish market at Peterhead, one of the largest in Europe.
