Loirston is a substantial house set in extensive gardens in a nice peaceful spot surrounded by trees, just 1 mile from Craigellachie and the beautiful River Spey in Speyside.

The house is ideal for families or groups of friends, with plenty of room to spread out into. It centres round a roomy sitting room that has lots of comfy seating and French doors that flood the room with light and lead out to a lovely big decked area. An archway leads from the sitting room through to the dining area where everyone can gather for informal evening meals.
The kitchen is chic and contemporary with a central island that provides extra space for cooking and a cosy seating area (around a little electric stove) at one end of the room with a further door out to the garden. It is supplemented by a smart utility room where the laundry facilities are neatly housed out of the way.
The generous accommodation is set out all on one level with a bright hallway off which are three attractive bedrooms. The master double bedroom has a king-size bed and a handy en suite shower room and there are two colourful twin bedrooms that share a very spacious family bathroom that has the luxury of having both a huge sunken Jacuzzi bath and a large walk-in shower.
Outside the raised deck to the front is a charming place to sit, relax and look out over the garden. To the rear of the house the large grassed garden slopes up towards an impressive tree house ‘fort’ that children are sure to love. It even has a slide! Please note: children should be supervised on the tree house which may not be suitable for small children.
There is a pub just under a mile away and the nearest village Craigellachie (1 mile) has a hotel restaurant. Permits are available for fishing on the famous River Spey there, where salmon and trout can be caught.
Some of the fishing beats look up towards the Thomas Telford bridge that gracefully spans the river. It dates all the way back to 1814 and is said to be the oldest surviving wide-span cast iron bridge in Scotland. It has been replaced by a modern road bridge but you can still walk across it for picturesque views of the river.
A section of the Speyside Way walking route runs from Craigellachie down to Ballindalloch (12 miles). Most of the walk follows the path of the Spey as it snakes south with some pretty scenery to take in along the way - the path is also suitable for cyclists.
The house is deep in the heart of ‘whisky country’, so if you are fond of a dram then you will find yourself spoilt for choice. Dufftown (6 miles) is home to the famous Glenfiddich distillery and there is a walking tour (4 miles in total) that visits several nearby distilleries including some that are not usually open to the public.
There is also an excellent whisky shop in Dufftown where you can pick up some fine samples to take home with you. In April every year the local Speyside Whisky Festival celebrates the drink with a programme of special events, tours, tastings, ceilidhs and traditional music and dancing.
Heading north it is about 40 minutes’ drive up to Lossiemouth where a wooden footbridge leads over the River Lossie to a wonderful long sandy beach and Covesea lighthouse.
