As Mallachie is so spacious and cleverly laid out there are a choice of relaxing places to spend time together or separate off into for some welcome peace and quiet if need be. The warmth and glow of the wood-burning stove can be enjoyed in the light and bright sitting room with its glass doors that lead to the inviting sunroom with great garden views and access to the raised deck seating area.
Concertina doors interconnect the elegant dining room and well-appointed kitchen so serving up meals is made that much easier. A utility area with laundry facilities is by the entrance and there is also a modern WC on this level which always comes in handy.
The four beautifully presented bedrooms are spread over the two floors of the house with a twin bedroom and incredibly spacious master double bedroom with a contemporary en suite shower room with walk-in shower downstairs. At the top of the open tread staircase is a cosy snug area with sofas and a TV and off it are another sunny twin room, an airy double bedroom and chic bathroom with both a shower and free-standing, double ended bath tub for soaking away any stresses.
Immediately by the house is a gorgeous stone seating area with a fire pit and lots of fairy lights that add a dash of sparkle and charm as night falls. Park in the sloping driveway and wander down it to the rest of the large garden where there is something different to see around every corner and a very secluded feeling due to the array of mature plants and trees dotted around. The garage can be used for storage or the chance to play table tennis or darts no matter what the weather and the trampoline, swing and climbing frame are great additions for the children.
Mallachie’s sister property Mallard a couple of doors along can also be booked for larger parties to holiday close to each other but still have their own space and privacy.
The shops and restaurants in the heart of Boat of Garten are but a brief stroll away so it is easy to stock up the cupboards, pop along for a meal or a drink without the car or walk the clubs along to the 18 hole golf course.
For a trip back in time, take a trip on the amazing Strathspey Railway steam train that runs from Aviemore to Broomhill. It is a really unique experience with lunch offered onboard and magnificent scenery to take in along the way.
Bike hire is available in the village to take on the paths that wind through the forest to the rear of Mallachie, which are also ideal for picturesque walks whilst keeping an eye out for some of the local wildlife including cheeky wee red squirrels.
Every year the Abernethy Highland Games comes to Nethy Bridge (5 miles), which draws in spectators from near and far as well as powerful competitors who show off their skills in traditional ‘heavy events’ like tossing the caber, shot put and hammer throwing. It is really quite the spectacle!
With so many different outdoor activities to take part in nearby it can be hard to decide what to put to the top of the list. Take to the slopes on skis or a snowboard at the Cairngorm Mountain resort (15 miles) or take a canoe, kayak or paddleboard out on the water at Loch Insh (14 miles).
