Once the manse for the local church, the house has been refurbished and equipped to a very high standard and without compromising its traditional charm. It now provides accommodation which is both bright and very spacious.
A particular feature of the house is the extensive sitting room/conservatory, with a wood-burning stove to keep you toasty warm at one end and large windows and doors opening to a decking area at the other - the lovely views may be admired whatever the weather. The bedrooms are large and bright and one of the bathrooms has a particularly interesting bath!
The large garden is perfect for both children and pets to enjoy, with a short walk to the riverside, while the gentle Highland cattle which usually graze in the adjoining field complete the idyll.
These glorious glens offer great walking and fabulous places for lazy picnics by shallow streams. More energetic guests, on the other hand, will find that they are within easy reach of some tempting Munros.
Cyclists have plenty of quiet roads and forest tracks to enjoy, not to mention the Great Glen Cycleway. There are good and very scenic golf courses; fishing permits are available locally and there is pony trekking at Drumnadrochit on Loch Ness.
The pretty village of Beauly (5m) offers restaurants, shops, craft shops, etc. The story goes that when Mary Queen of Scots first saw the place, she exclaimed 'Quel beau lieu!' or 'What a beautiful place!' and the name has stuck ever since. Then of course there is Loch Ness itself with Inverness, the vibrant capital of the highlands at its northern end.
From there (if you can bear to leave the lovely surroundings of Chapel House) you can strike out north and west to the Western Highlands, Skye, Torridon or points north, or head up the north east coast to John O' Groats or even Orkney.
Lovers of wildlife will be in heaven here. The cottage is perfectly placed for you to explore three of Scotland's most beautiful glens - Affric, Cannich and Strathfarrar. You can see osprey, golden eagles, capercaillie, ptarmigan, black grouse (if you are there at the right time of year you can join the RSPB dawn excursion to witness the famous lek at the Corrimony reserve), badgers, otters, deer and pine martens, to name but some.
