Overview

Tomich is a tiny hamlet 30 miles southwest of Inverness at the end of Strathglass and just beside Glen Affric, which is generally recognised as one of the loveliest of Scottish glens.

It is reached by a peaceful country road which comes to an end a little further up the glen and in a delightful situation on the edge of the village. Above the road is Coire Cottage, a traditional and most attractive mid terraced house now available to those who wish to holiday in this beautiful area.

The cottage brims with charm and character, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere. The spacious living room, featuring a cosy wood-burning stove, is perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. The modern kitchen is well-equipped, including an AGA oven (available outside the summer months) as well as a separate oven and hob for convenience when the AGA is not in use. The bathroom is also located on the ground floor. Upstairs, reached by the steep, characterful stairs typical of cottages like this, you'll find two bright and airy double bedrooms, each designed to provide a restful retreat.

Outside, the cottage continues to impress with its fully enclosed front garden, offering wonderful glen views, ideal for enjoying the peace and fresh air or stargazing under the clear Highland skies. Secure bike storage is provided for those eager to explore the many trails nearby, and private off-road parking for two cars is available directly in front of the garage, with additional on-street parking if needed.

Map & Local

Once here, you may well be happy simply to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings, perhaps with a gentle stroll along to the Plodda Falls (3 miles), a well-known local beauty spot. But it would be such a shame to come to this part of the world and not to experience its many delights.

There is wonderful walking in all directions, while the quiet roads up the glens also lend themselves well to two-wheel travel. For hill walkers, the nearby Munros in Glen Affric and Glen Cannich will provide a memorable day out.

Those with even a passing interest in wildlife will find a rich selection on the doorstep, for example, deer, pine martens and red squirrels. Bird enthusiasts in particular know that here they will see buzzards, osprey and golden eagles. In the early summer they can join the early morning RSPB excursion to the reserve at Corrymony to witness the lek of the black grouse.

Fishing can be arranged locally, there is a pony trekking centre at Cougie, while Loch Ness is just a 15 minute drive away. There you can take boat trips, keeping an eye out for the elusive monster, visit Castle Urquhart, or continue to Inverness which offers every possible entertainment and activity, as well as being a bustling shopping centre.

Tomich itself has a hotel offering excellent meals, within easy walking distance of the cottage and the nearest shop is at Cannich.
