Surrounded by rolling heather clad hills in the heart of the peaceful Dunrobin Glen is Glen Cottage, a sweet detached cottage that enjoys a wonderful peaceful setting, just 6 miles from the seaside retreat of Golspie on Sutherland’s east coast.

Once inside, choose whether to spend time enjoying the open fire amidst the soothing décor of the stylish sitting room or cuddle up in the separate snug/dining room that is kept toasty by an oil-fired burner.
The neat kitchen has everything easily to hand and there is also a modern shower room downstairs. Due to its remote location the cottage is ‘off grid’ with a generator that provides its electricity and no other houses as far as the eye can see.
Beautiful country views greet guests from the window of the cosy double bedroom and, for extra flexibility, this room can also be set up as a twin room if required. The other light and bright twin bedroom is spacious and attractively presented, finishing off the indoor accommodation.
Outside seating has been set up in the enclosed area in front of the cottage so that the views of the surrounding countryside can be fully appreciated and solar lighting means that evenings can be spent outdoors. The Moray Firth is visible off in the distance and stunning peregrine falcons can often be seen in the skies above. Gates open up to off-road parking and a grassed area to the side of the house that slopes up to a raised rear lawn.
Golspie (6 miles) is the place for shopping or stopping off for a meal or drink at one of its pub/restaurants. From the north end of the village the ‘Big Burn Walk’ leads out through pretty woodland to a picturesque waterfall.
Just outside Golspie, history enthusiasts will love visiting the stunning Dunrobin Castle with its fairytale style turrets, fascinating museum and impressive falconry displays.
Walk along Golspie’s long, unspoilt sandy beach for a chance to spot seals, dolphins and even minke whales out at sea. Golspie Golf Course is an excellent 18 hole links course set right on the coast with gorgeous sea views to take in during play.
The quiet roads around the cottage are great for cycling or the Highland Wildcat Mountain Bike Trails are only 15 minutes’ drive away for mountain biking on blue, red or black trails. Part of the black trail is actually the longest free ride descent in the UK that leads down from the summit of Ben Bhraggie.
Loch Fleet Nature Reserve (10 miles) is based around a tidal basin that is a big draw for birdlife so it is an ideal place for bird watching or simply enjoying the scenery on forest walks whilst looking out for otters in the water.
The River Brora is known for its salmon fishing and fishing is available nearby by arrangement. At the nearby Clynelish Distillery, founded by the Duke of Sutherland, offers various tours where the distillation process is explained and a few ‘wee drams’ can be sampled.
