In the welcoming sitting room there are places to relax and relish the warming effects of the wood-burning stove or enjoy a romantic meal at the dining table by the window. Everything needed for cooking up a storm is provided in the neat kitchen so everyone can take a turn cooking.
The comfy double bedroom, with its king-size bed, is nice and spacious and has been decked out in soothing neutral tones. As the shower room has been set up in a wet room style it is particularly suitable for anyone that has mobility issues.
Behind the house is a fully enclosed garden that has an attractive lawn and a patio area where guests can sit and admire their surroundings.
Park on the road just to the front or make use of the estate office’s carpark that is further down the same road. Golspie is a lovely village to wander around with its charming old fashioned lampposts and traditional buildings that are dotted around.
As the cottage’s sister property, Bluebell Cottage, sits just alongside both cottages can be booked for larger parties wishing to holiday together but still have some of their own space and privacy.
Golspie itself is very well catered for in terms of shops and eateries for a small village and the nearby Dunrobin Castle (1 mile) is well worth a visit. Its museum has interesting exhibits on display and falconry demonstrations with impressive birds of prey are held in the grounds.
During the Scottish Snowdrop Festival each year the castle is just one of the places across the country where a celebration of these flowers is held. The gardens are pleasant to mosey around at any time of year but particularly from January to March when these delicate flowers are in bloom, carpeting the extensive grounds.
Brora (5 miles) has an 18 hole links golf course that provides a welcome challenge for most players. The beautiful beach here just begs to be explored and is the ideal place to while away an afternoon beachcombing and paddling whilst looking out for dolphins and seals frolicking out in the water.
At Dornoch (11 miles) the History Links museum explains all about the area’s history and has a leaflet on offer that lays out a trail around some of the fascinating sights in the town from the Mercat Cross to St Michael’s Well and The Witch’s Stone.
Dornoch Angling Club has several small lochs and permits for fishing can be bought from the Eagle Hotel in the town. It also has a restaurant with great pub grub, real ales and lots of different whiskies to sample.
