The house sits around a mile over the border into Scotland in the small rural Scottish village of Paxton. It is 5 miles from the popular market town of Berwick-upon-Tweed with its Elizabethan fortifications, wide variety of shops and excellent rail connections to many major UK cities and some 10 miles from the old county town of Duns with its famous Jim Clark Trophy room.
Paxton House, completed in 1763 is a fine example of neo-Palladian architecture and is famed for its wonderful collection of Chippendale furniture, its 18th century costume collection and one of the largest private galleries with many paintings dating from the late 18th century.
This delightful self-contained one bedroom apartment offers the superb opportunity to experience the majestic pleasures of stunning Paxton House and its wonderful 80 acres of grounds while still maintaining your privacy. With its own access (down a few steps) from the courtyard in which it is situated, and enjoying views out across the putting green, Paxton House Garden Apartment provides surprisingly spacious accommodation including an open-plan lounge/kitchen/dining area with modern kitchen and bathroom.
The house's surroundings are very special - there are many walks to enjoy, whether it be strolling along the River Tweed, exploring the woodland paths or playing croquette and when you fancy a coffee, the Stables Tearoom in the grounds is sure to satisfy with its delicious home baking!
Providing the perfect base for exploring the Scottish Borders and Northumbria, the countryside around Paxton offers excellent opportunities for walking, cycling, boat trips and fishing (lying close to the renowned salmon and trout rivers of Tweed and Whiteadder). The nearby beaches provide mile upon mile of coastal hiking, with the popular Holy Island of Lindisfarne (17 miles) offering the chance to experience tranquillity, spirituality and beauty enjoyed by many visitors year-on-year.
With a strong emphasis on conservation, Paxton House is a magnet for wildlife enthusiasts wishing to indulge in the pleasures of wildlife watching with many wonderful creatures residing in the extensive grounds as well as the most famous Sea Bird Sanctuary in the British Isles being located close by in the Farne Islands with its exciting seabird and grey seal colonies.
