Inside the cottage has been fully refurbished throughout and is now chic and contemporary whilst still retaining the inviting charm of a traditional country cottage.
The main living area is light, airy and open plan with separate areas for relaxing in comfort by the wood-burning stove, cooking up a storm in the modern kitchen area with its useful central island and dining in style by the French doors that lead out to the garden.
There are three bedrooms in total that are laid out all on the one level with two attractive double bedrooms (one en suite) that both have king-size beds and a pretty twin bedroom with zip link beds that can be converted into a super king-size bed if required. The modern bathroom has a double ended bath with a hand shower over it.
Private offroad parking is through the gates to the side of the house and to the rear is an enclosed garden with a raised decked terrace with seating and steps leading down to a sloping grassed garden. In the field beyond the garden are a family of Highland cows that are fascinating to sit and watch.
Salmon fishing is available in season by arrangement on the owners’ own beat of the River Tweed just quarter of a mile away from the cottage. In recent years a whopper of 25lb was even caught there!
The village of Walkerburn itself is an easy 10 minute walk away where there is a basic grocery shop and an excellent little café to enjoy lunch or a scone/cake at. The hotel bar/restaurant in the village is ideal for nights off from cooking and has wonderful views of the River Tweed to enjoy whilst dining.
Walkerburn is right in the midst of the Tweed Valley Forest Park that is made up of 7 different forests that have lots of interesting walks and wonderful scenery to take in along the way.
Mountain bikers will be in their element as the cottage in easy reach of not one, but two renowned mountain biking centres at Innerleithen (2 miles) and Glentress (8 miles) where there is also an exhilarating Go Ape aerial adventure course. Secure storage and washing facilities are available at the cottage for bikes, or they can be hired at the Innerleithen centre which is only a short ride away. Innerleithen itself also has a range of interesting shops and a well-stocked supermarket.
The Southern Upland Way coast to coast walking route passes nearby at Traquair (2.5 miles) and can be followed in either direction, heading south west to beautiful St Mary’s Loch or north east up to the pretty Borders town of Melrose that is known for its historic 12th century Abbey.
It is worth taking the time to stop off at the beautiful Kailzie Gardens (7.5 miles) for a peaceful stroll amongst some gorgeous surroundings. At the right times of year the ground is carpeted with snowdrops and bluebells and it is a particular riot of colour in the spring when everything bursts into life. Also only half an hour’s drive away is Dawyk Botanic Garden where there are more wonderful plants and trees to admire.
Peebles (9 miles) is very well-served in terms of shops, cafés and restaurants. It also has a lovely chocolate shop for picking up sweet treats or perhaps even trying a fun afternoon’s chocolate making or pastry workshop.
