Overview

Inside the large, bright sitting/dining room is warm and welcoming with the comfortable seating around the wood-burning stove making the perfect spot to toast yourself after a day spent out exploring. At the other end of the room is the spacious, extendable dining area and a lovely extra seating area by the bay window where you can sit and admire the stunning loch views and breathtaking sunsets.

The kitchen is modern and very well-equipped with a large electric range cooker and plenty of space for cooking. There is also a dishwasher and a handy utility room that neatly houses the laundry facilities.

All on one level there are four bedrooms off the central hallway, three doubles and one twin, all of which are light, airy and stylishly presented. The large master double bedroom has a king-size bed and an incredibly spacious en suite shower room with an enormous walk-in shower.

The other two spacious double bedrooms also have king-size beds and en suite shower rooms, while the twin room makes use of the modern, fully-tiled family bathroom.

Outside there is parking right by the door and large lawns to the front and back (with furniture) from which to enjoy the peaceful setting. The fully stocked, 10 acre loch is just 50 metres away and guests are welcome to fish there or perhaps even manage to spot some of the otters that play on the shore.

Wildlife lovers will also like bird watching from the bay window in the sitting room from which birds and red squirrels can be seen enjoying the nuts from the feeders just on the other side of the glass.

Map & Local

There is a bar in walking distance of the cottage and the village of Leswalt (1 mile) has an excellent little shop for groceries.

Stranraer (5 miles) has a busy town centre with plenty of shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs, as well as several supermarkets. A few miles further up the coast at Cairnryan you can take the ferry across to Belfast for a day trip to enjoy some Northern Irish hospitality.

Portpatrick (6 miles) is a picturesque fishing village that is a popular tourist draw with its selection of excellent gift shops and stunning views across to Northern Ireland. The town is also the start of the Southern Upland Way, a waymarked route covering over 200 miles that can be picked up from very near the cottage.

The Mull of Galloway (26 miles) is Scotland’s most southerly place and still remains remarkably unspoilt with some absolutely stunning scenery and an RSPB nature reserve with cliff colonies of seabirds. If you are feeling particularly energetic you can climb the steps all the way up the lighthouse that is perched on the cliff, a trip that is made well worthwhile by the magnificent views that can be seen from the top.

If you are a golfer you are spoilt for choice as there are four local golf courses in easy reach of the cottage. The area is also ideal for cycling with its quiet country roads and one of the 7stanes mountain biking centres at Kirroughtree being only an hour’s drive away with a variety of trails for different abilities.
