With trees surrounding the garden and no neighbours nearby, this is just the place to enjoy some real peace and quiet. There is the choice of the sitting/TV room or snug to relax in, both of which are kept cosy by multi-fuel stoves.
The dining table at the heart of the kitchen is a lovely place to gather and enjoy meals together and there is the best of both worlds with an Aga oven and a gas hob to cook on. There is also a handy shower room downstairs with a large, walk-in shower.
Stairs from the snug lead upstairs to the bedrooms, two twin and one double, that are all set out off a long corridor that runs the length of the cottage. There is a second bathroom and separate WC upstairs and having stairs at both ends of the house makes it easier to get around.
As an added bonus the games room has a table tennis table and board games set up in the corner so there is plenty of entertainment whatever the weather outside. Parking is just to the side of the cottage and extensive lawns can be found to the front and rear, as well as a seating area ideal for admiring the garden from.
Just a 5 minute drive away is the village of Eaglesfield (2 miles) that has a little general store/PO and excellent bar meals can be sampled at the Kirtle Inn (3.5 miles).
The Eskrigg Nature Reserve just outside Lockerbie (12 miles) has some pretty woodland trails to wander around with beautiful flora and fauna and red squirrels, birds and other wildlife to look out for along the way. For a closer look or the chance to capture some photographs there is also a wildlife hide.
Annan (8 miles) is the place for supermarket shopping and Dumfries, about 40 minutes’ drive away, has lots of shops, pubs and restaurants. Just outside Annan at the Annandale distillery (7 miles) there are tours and whisky tastings available with one of the tours focussing on the revival of the distillery that re-opened in 2014 after a 90 year break in production. A fascinating excavation of the original sills can be seen and the café is definitely worth stopping off at.
A visit to the well-known Gretna Green (8 miles) is sure to be on the agenda. This Famous Blacksmiths Shop is home to the ‘anvil weddings’ and couples have been eloping there ever since 1754. Weddings are still held and there is an interesting visitor centre, gift shop, sculpture park and romantic, ring-shaped maze.
The Rock UK Whithaugh Park Adventure Centre near Newcastleton (20 miles) is great for adrenalin hunters who can, in groups as small as 4, try abseiling, climbing, zip wiring and a high ropes course amongst other thrilling activities.
