A heartfelt welcome awaits at Brigend Esk Cottage near Langholm, where guests can settle into this true ‘home away from home’. Nestled beside a bridge that spans the winding River Esk, it offers a peaceful backdrop for exploring the sights and attractions that Dumfries and Galloway has to offer.
This timeless cottage has been thoughtfully extended to incorporate a generously sized open plan living area, which benefits from lots of natural light due to its large picture windows and sliding glass doors.
Lounging on the comfy sofas enjoying a dram in front of a roaring fire is a truly idyllic evening pastime. The well-equipped kitchen area makes for effortless meal preparation, with the dining table conveniently placed just alongside and the adjoining outbuilding provides a handy hideaway for the fridge/freezer and washing machine.
With two beautifully presented double bedrooms decorated in soothing neutral tones to choose from and a contemporary shower room placed in between, the accommodation here strikes a great balance of being both cosy and practical.
Secure storage is available within the grounds and the outdoor seating has been thoughtfully placed by the wonderful wildflower patch, creating an inviting space to immerse oneself in the picturesque views. Convenient parking for up to 2 cars is placed right by the house for easy access and the enclosed garden is a safe haven for children and pets to play in freely.
Fishing is available for salmon and sea trout fishing on two stretches of the River Esk (permits are required).
In nearby Langholm (6 miles), affectionately known as ‘muckle toon’ locally, there is a choice of different hotel restaurants to sample as well as the usual shops and small supermarkets. Why not enjoy a meal out followed by one of the concerts or theatre performances laid on at The Buccleuch Centre?
A challenging 9 hole course awaits at Langholm Golf Club where the hillside setting allows the beautiful surrounding views to be taken in whilst playing.
For a day out with a difference, head over to Hebbs Alpacas (10 miles) where they offer the chance to take one of their gorgeous alpacas out on a scenic country walk. The walks allow you to get right up close to their gorgeous animals and they even have charming products on sale made from their silky soft fleece.
Anyone thinking about tying the knot could combine their stay with a day trip over to the renowned Gretna Green (20 miles) where couples have been getting married for over 250 years. If that doesn’t appeal there is plenty to see there with a gift shop, a sculpture park and a ‘courtship maze’ that is fun to navigate around whilst admiring the sweet collection of love locks that are dotted around.
Kielder Forest Park (37 miles) really has something for everyone and is reachable in just over an hour’s drive. Spanning over 4 square miles, its man-made reservoir is an ideal spot to give watersports a go with canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding all available onsite along with equipment hire.
The woodland within the forest park has become home to an amazing range of birdlife since it was created over 40 years ago. Additionally, the Bird of Prey Centre there provides a habitat for over 60 species including eagles, owls, hawks and even vultures and to top it off there is a terribly cute family of wallabies.
