This stone built, detached cottage is actually an old schoolhouse that has been lovingly converted into a cosy getaway. Situated just 20 miles from the magnificent Glencoe, on Scotland's popular west coast, it sits in its own enclosed, private garden sheltered from the road by trees, providing total privacy.
Inside the cottage is welcoming and homely, with stunning scenery to be seen out of the windows. The modern living room is comfy and warm, with a multi-fuel stove to supplement the oil fired central heating. Although there is no television signal in the cottage due to the remote location, there is a TV and DVD player with a selection of DVDs to keep you entertained while you snuggle up in front of the stove.
The elegant kitchen, which was formerly a classroom, is well-equipped and has a dining area for four. The water supply to the house is filtered spring water that is perfectly safe to drink, but you may want to bring a supply of bottled water. There is also a convenient WC on the ground floor.
Upstairs, the double bedroom is stylish and comfortable and again boasts beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. There is a twin bedroom that is perfect for children, as well as a bright family bathroom.
Deer are often seen in the area around the garden (as well as on the cushions indoors) and there is plenty of other local wildlife to look out for. You can try and spot buzzards, golden and sea eagles, pine marten, Highland foxes and otters. Seals can also be seen at nearby Loch Etive, which is just a short drive away.
This is the ideal remote location to relax in, but if you want to do something more active, you can have the best of both worlds here.
You can go hill walking, hiking and climbing in Glen Etive, as well as mountain biking and horse riding nearby. You can take to the water by canoeing and kayaking and if you're feeling brave enough tackle some white water kayaking on the River Etive. You could also try brushing up on your photography skills by capturing some of the breathtaking scenery all around.
Glencoe Mountain Resort (10 miles) is renowned for its winter sports, with skiing, snowboarding and even sledging available. While you are in Glencoe you can also explore the surrounding region on four wheels on a Landrover safari.
Film fans make recognise Glen Etive, as it was used as the location for some of the scenes in the Bond film 'Skyfall'. You can even enjoy a day trip on the 'Harry Potter Hogwarts' train to Mallaig and back to Fort William. In Fort William (36 miles) there is a wide variety of shops and lots of quaint little restaurants and eating places.
The shopping and entertainment mecca of Glasgow is only about a two hour drive away. If you fancy some island hopping, day trips to Iona, Mull and Skye are achievable from here, or you can go and do some 'monster spotting' at the famous Loch Ness.
